DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION

We’re on a mission to help parents ignite a love of learning and a love of life. The salary range for this role is $125,000-$135,000 annually.
Role Summary / Overview
The Director of Transportation will hold full strategic and operational ownership of our transportation function — including our book fairs shipping, direct to consumer clubs shipping, reverse logistics, carrier network expansion, cross-dock relationships, and our white glove final mile delivery operation. This will be an on-site role within our Atlanta facility once it’s operational; until then, the expectation would be up to 25% travel to our existing locations.
Requirements
- Experience leading teams through change and managing different levels of leadership
- Deep experience with negotiating carrier rates - inclusive of small package costs, line haul rates, and final mile rates
- 10+ years of progressive transportation, freight, or logistics experience — including a minimum of 4 years in a senior leadership role with direct P&L accountability
- Deep understanding of DOT regulations
- Experience with optimizing TMS software

- Experience with shipping big and bulky freight
- In depth knowledge of how to optimize white glove final mile delivery
- A background in cross dock relationship management
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field
- Previous experience in a startup environment
Responsibilities
- Build and lead a high-performing team of both exempt and non-exempt personnel — setting clear expectations, developing talent, and creating a culture of accountability and ownership
- Own the transportation P&L with full accountability for budgeting, forecasting, and delivering results
- Analyze current parcel rates, carrier rates for both line haul and final mile, to ensure we are getting the most competitive pricing
- Identify new carrier relationships in expanding markets to ensure we can scale efficiently
- Partner cross-functionally with sales, customer service, and warehousing to ensure the transportation network enables growth with minimal disruption

Compensation Range: $125K - $135K
