The Department
The
Information Technology Department (IT) is responsible for the administration of the City's information and communications systems and infrastructure. Our services include the planning, procurement, delivery, maintenance and training which support the business functions of City departments through technology. The Information Technology department's responsibilities include: computer hardware systems, data and telecom infrastructure, data management, information security, radio and wireless communications, software and applications, and telephone and voice systems.
The Internship
The
Communications & Customer Support Division of the IT Department is looking for a dedicated, flexible, individual with a desire to pursue a career in Information Technology, to serve as a part-time Intern. This position provides assistance with customer and helpdesk support. The Information Technology Intern (Communications & Customer Support) will also assist with the installation and maintenance of computer systems.
The Information Technology Intern (Communications & Customer Support) will have hands-on training with installing and replacing computer systems in a government organization.
HOURS: This is part-time internship will
last up to six months, but could end sooner based on department needs.
QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
The Intern I is a non-benefited, entry-level position for high school students, recent high school graduates, and current college students, preferably with a minimum of six months of paid or unpaid work experience.
Ideal Candidate
The most successful candidate will possess;
- A strong willingness to learn and an interest in pursuing a career in Information Technology;
- Experience using Microsoft 365 products;
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public;
- A foundational understanding of computer and desktop support principles and practices; and
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to follow instructions and interact professionally with users.
The ideal candidate will be a college student pursuing a career in Information Technology, computer support, or a related field.
Preferred: Experience supporting IT functions within a public sector environment.
Certifications in Microsoft Teams Administration, Endpoint Management, Azure ID, CompTIA in network, technology, or security are highly desirable, but not required.
