Freelance PR Consultant / Media Relations Specialist – Up to a $2,000/mo Retainer
Established, high-producing boutique real estate brokerage in San Diego is seeking a Senior Independent PR Consultant or Freelancer to manage our media relations.
We are looking for a single point of contact with an active, proven track record of securing editorial placements in San Diego print, digital, and broadcast news.
Our Story Hook:
We work exclusively with home sellers, self-fund full furniture staging out of pocket, and our listings typically sell in two days. We want to leverage this data to position our founder as a premier local market expert and go-to media commentator. The entire goal of this new hire is to get the phone to ring with new listing possibilities all throughout San Diego County.
What We Need:
• Proactive pitching to local newsrooms (San Diego Union-Tribune, San Diego Business Journal, local TV broadcast morning shows).
• Press release development and digital press kit curation. Reaching the public, not just the media, through this step would be ideal.
• Thoughtful leadership positioning and interview coordination.
What We DO NOT Need:
We explicitly are excluding website development, branding, QR codes, coding of any kind, SEO, or social media management from this contract. Do not apply if you only specialize in social media content.
Requirements:
• Must be an independent solo practitioner based in or deeply familiar with the San Diego media landscape.
• Must have existing, direct relationships with local journalists and producers (you will be asked who you can pick up the phone and call on day one).
• Minimum 5+ years of dedicated public relations experience (agency alumni preferred).
Compensation: Top Pay is $2,000/month flat retainer for a specialized, media-only scope of work that leads to leads.
****We are open to new ideas that are not just media-focused to reach new clients, but please see above "What We Do Not Need."****
To Apply:
Please reply with a brief summary of your PR background, two examples of local San Diego press placements you personally secured, and your availability for a brief 15-minute phone interview next week. If you have a resume, please attach it.
Finalists must be willing to meet business owner in San Diego for coffee.
