INTERNSHIP PROGRAM STRUCTURE:
Our internship program is designed to provide real-world experience that is directly related to your academic discipline and career goals and provide you a better understanding of career options for your degree. Components of the program include:
- Hands-on experience working as a member of a specific department and team.
- Assigned projects to accelerate learning of key functions/process.
- Cross-functional departmental exposures within the corporate office.
- Tours and exposure to other business areas (e.g., stores, distribution center) to ensure full understanding of the company structure and strategy.
- End of program presentation of project findings, and recommended course of action to executives.
THE IMPACT YOU CAN HAVE:
The Cyber Security Operations Intern will support Ulta Beauty’s Security Operations Center by assisting with monitoring, analyzing, and responding to security events. This internship provides exposure to real-world SOC functions including alert triage, investigations, threat intelligence, vulnerability review, and process improvement. Working under the guidance of SOC Analysts and Engineers, you will help strengthen Ulta Beauty’s security posture while building foundational experience as a future cyber security professional.
YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH THESE GOALS BY:
Security Monitoring & Alert Triage
- Monitor security tools (SIEM, email security, firewalls) for potential threats.
- Perform initial analysis of alerts to identify false positives vs. actionable security events.
- Escalate suspicious activity following documented SOC procedures.
Incident Investigation Support
- Assist SOC Analysts in gathering logs, reviewing indicators of compromise, and documenting findings.
- Participate in basic incident response activities such as containment recommendations, case documentation, and timeline development.
- Help maintain incident records, metrics, and closure codes.
Vulnerability & Risk Review
- Assist with vulnerability analysis, verification of remediation, and tracking of priority items.
- Help assess security risk for systems and applications under guidance from senior team members.
SOC Process & Playbook Improvement
- Contribute to updates of incident response playbooks, triage guides, and SOPs.
- Document steps for common alerts to improve accuracy and reduce triage time.
- Support continuous improvement efforts aligned to MITRE ATT&CK, NIST, and other frameworks.
Security Tools & Technology Exposure
Hands-on exposure—guided by senior staff—to:
- SIEM platforms and basic detection logic
- SOAR workflows and automation concepts
- Firewalls, content filtering, and log analysis
- Identity security and email security tooling
ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related technical field. Recent graduates may also be considered.
- Strong academic record and demonstrated interest in cybersecurity (coursework, labs, student organizations, competitions, etc.).
- Curiosity, analytical thinking, and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work on-site at the Ulta Beauty Bolingbrook corporate office during core business hours.
- Ability to commit full-time during the internship period.
The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $25.00 / Hour. Exact pay will be based on factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business and organizational needs. Eligible associates may also earn overtime pay as required by applicable law. Full-time positions are eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
