Position Summary
The Set‑Up Technician is responsible for preparing CNC machining jobs to meet production schedules, ensuring first‑article quality, and supporting continuous workflow improvements. This role requires strong technical ability, independent problem‑solving, and hands‑on experience setting up both horizontal and vertical CNC mills.
Responsibilities
Set up CNC jobs to meet production schedules and quality requirements
Produce acceptable first‑article parts and verify readiness for production
Make independent machine adjustments and offsets without supervision
Run special tasks assigned by the Foreman
Communicate with production management and scheduling for job planning
Operate CNC machines during production as needed
Create fixtures and workholding solutions for new jobs
Improve job efficiency by adjusting programs, speeds, and feeds
Assist with machine breakdowns, troubleshooting, and repairs
Support QC by creating check sheets and performing basic inspections
Shadow, guide, and improve new set‑up personnel
Monitor new tooling performance and verify proper speeds/feeds
Follow through on repairs; if unable to fix, identify alternatives such as replacement or outside service
Qualifications
3+ years experience in a job shop environment with CNC set‑up responsibilities
Experience setting up horizontal and vertical CNC mills
Familiarity with Fanuc, Celos, G‑code, and Mastercam
Experience with program editors such as CIMCO
Formal trade school or machining education desirable, but equivalent job shop experience accepted
Ability to lift 25 lbs and perform physical tasks associated with machining
Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently
