Keep your day job. We insist.
FruitCraft is a winery & distillery on University Ave in Hillcrest that hosts weddings and private events. We're adding one or two people to our front of house event crew — and this position is deliberately built as a second job.
Who this role is designed for:
You already have a day job — something like an 8–4:30 or 9–5 — and you want 1–2 evening shifts a week to supplement your income. Our shifts start at 4:30–5:30pm, so a standard workday hands off cleanly into ours. We give strong preference to applicants who currently hold other employment, and our application asks about it.
You live in Uptown or close by — many of our longest-tenured crew walk to work. Reliable transportation works too; what matters is that at 5pm on a Saturday, you arrive.
Your weekday daytime hours are spoken for and you like it that way. We are not a path to full-time hours, and we won't pretend otherwise — a weekend here might be zero shifts or three, depending on bookings and seasonality. But we know about most bookings well ahead of time.
The work: bussing, glass washing, food running, setup and breakdown, eventually pouring our sparkling wines and small-batch spirits/cocktails. We dropped titles like "server" and "bartender" on purpose: on event nights, everything is everyone's job. It's fast-paced, physical, and typically done by 11pm.
The money: $17.75/hr base + a per-event share ($80–120, drawn from client service charges) + pooled tips. It averages out to $33–40/hr, but sometimes more. Shift meals on the house when the kitchen's cooking.
Experience: not required — preferred, but we'll train the right person, and we cover your California alcohol-service certification (RBS) if you don't have it.
The ethic: give more than you take. Guests should leave feeling they got more than they paid for, and your coworkers should never be picking up your slack. If that sentence made you nod, you'll fit here.
