POSITION PROFILE:
This is a part-time position that reports directly to the Site Supervisor of the before and after school program on a public-school site in the San Diego Unified School District. Special education background and experience with the process of including children with special needs in a before and after school program.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Encourages children’s participation in after school activities
- Supervision of 1-6 kindergarten through eighth grade children
- Tutor individuals and small groups in academic subjects
- Reinforces behavior modification techniques determined by school staff and Site Supervisor
- Ensure appropriate environment and safety of children
- Develop lesson plans in accordance with educational and/or guidance program
- Ability to provide individual accommodations as needed to meet the physical and social emotional needs of the student(s)
- Sometimes medical assistance or toileting assistance may be needed
QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience and Certifications):
- Minimum 6 months experience in the supervision/management of children
- Special education, child or youth development background Experience providing inclusive programs to children
- 48 college units completed OR a passed CAPE test OR 12 units in Child Development or related major
- Personality and character traits suited to the care of children with special needs
- Knowledge of and ability to recognize limitations of children
- Favorable pre-employment TB test and health screening required
- Favorable pre-employment DOJ/FBI fingerprinting clearance and child abuse index processing required
- Current CPR and First aid certificate must be provided within 30 days of employment
- Immunization Records (influenza, pertussis and measles) before first day of employment
