THE ROLE
This is an opportunity to join a dynamic, collaborative team working at the heart of the auction business. Sotheby's Proposals team works with business development leaders to produce highly polished, compelling, business-winning pitch documents for our highest-priority consignment opportunities across the full breadth of Sotheby's sale categories, from Fine Art, to Jewelry, Wine and more.
The Market Intelligence Analyst is a highly motivated individual with strong analytical and communication skills, who can manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment. Working closely with the Senior Analyst, Proposal Writers and Sotheby's most senior business-getters, this professional will help to shape the narrative of our competitive position for highly customized, business-winning pitch materials.
A successful candidate is a flexible and creative problem-solver with the ability to think seamlessly across both quantitative and qualitative dimensions. You are highly collaborative and a dependable team contributor, thriving in fast-paced, high-pressure environments where speed and precision are equally important. You are adept at recognizing the nuances of each opportunity and can adapt your analysis to align with specific business needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyze market performance and Sotheby's positioning vis-à-vis competitors following each sale
- Identify patterns, outliers, and meaningful insights from data
- Present competitive data in the most effective way—statistically and visually
- Collaborate closely with Proposal Writers to form competitive arguments in a timely manner
- Work closely with specialists to define and present the most effective customized competitive position
- Effectively leverage internal resources (Tableau database and experts) and external research tools
IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES
- Bachelor's degree required; a combination of quantitative and qualitative disciplines is a plus
- 0–3 years of relevant experience (data analytics, market research, finance, or consulting)
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and communicate findings clearly and persuasively
- Experience with data storytelling and data visualization
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage and work effectively with a range of stakeholders, including senior internal clients
- Highly detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and ramp up in new tools, topics, and environments
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (a plus):
- Strong sense of visual polish and layout
- Experience with BI tools, such as Tableau
- Interest in the art market
- Familiarity with AI tools and/or programming
- Strong business acumen
