OverviewThe Accounting Manager leads the accounting function for a service-based organization, ensuring accurate financial records, timely month-end close, strong internal controls, and compliance with company policies and external regulations. This role partners closely with leadership to deliver financial insights that support strategic decision-making and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting 6 Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; ensure accuracy and adherence to GAAP.
- Month-End Close 6 Manage the close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis.
- Team Leadership 6 Supervise and develop accounting staff; assign work, review output, and provide coaching and feedback.
- Payroll & Commissions Oversight 6 Ensure accurate payroll processing and commission calculations aligned with service contracts and internal policies.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable 6 Oversee timely and accurate AP/AR processing, maintain proper controls, and support proactive collections.
- General Ledger Management 6 Maintain the chart of accounts, review entries, and ensure proper classification and documentation.
- Budgeting & Forecasting Support 6 Partner with FP&A or leadership to prepare budgets, monitor performance, and provide financial insights.
- Internal Controls 6 Implement and monitor controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory and audit requirements.
- Audit Coordination 6 Serve as the primary contact for external auditors; prepare schedules, documentation, and responses.
- Process Improvement 6 Identify and implement opportunities to automate billing, streamline payroll, and enhance financial workflows.
- Policy Development 6 Maintain and update accounting policies that reflect the operational needs of a service-based business.
Qualifications
- Bachelor 27s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a service-oriented environment.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Proficiency with accounting and billing systems used in service-based organizations.
- Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with financial data.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and deadlines.
