As the Senior Engineering Technician (Network), you will be part of the team that ensures and maintains optimal network performance and reliability in an Operational Technology (OT) environment. You will provide day to day support and participate in the modernization and maintenance of the SCADA network infrastructure. This position guides technical decisions and solutions while working cross functionally with IT, project teams and external consultants.
What You’ll Do
- Lead lifecycle asset management for SCADA network communications infrastructure, including condition assessments, asset inventory governance, end-of-life/end-of-support tracking, risk-based replacement planning, and development of capital improvement roadmaps.
- Initiate, develop, deploy, and oversee network strategies for SCADA environments which include servers, PCs (Microsoft and Linux), PLCs, RTUs, LANs, WANs, wireless devices, virtual machines, and DMZs.
- Review, analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex network and system issues, providing expert-level troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
- Employ secure SCADA network architecture and cybersecurity best practices to protect critical infrastructure.
- Lead and contribute to the planning, deployment, configuration and upgrade of Metropolitan SCADA network communications systems.
- Partner closely with IT teams, project managers, and SCADA network/security consultants to review designs, guide technical decisions, and ensure successful project delivery.
- Develop and maintain technical standards, documentation, and procedures while mentoring junior staff and promoting operational excellence.

Schedule: 44/36. Start times are no earlier than 6 am and end times are no later than 6 pm.
Hybrid: Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate (HSEC), and two years of accredited college or university in engineering
AND eight years of relevant experience, two years of which must have been at the Engineering Technician III level.
Relevant Experience is defined as a combination which include all of the following: Experience maintaining network infrastructure; support of LAN/WAN infrastructures; and resolving network performance issues.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
