Position Summary
The Rules Writer supports the development, maintenance, and testing of logic-based rules that drive product selection, configuration, pricing, and performance recommendations within the company’s quoting platform.
This role sits at the intersection of engineering, data, and sales, translating product specifications and engineering requirements into structured system logic. Key Responsibilities
Rules Development & System Support
- Assist in writing and maintaining product selection, configuration, and pricing rules within the quoting platform
- Translate engineering documentation and product specifications into structured system logic and database tables
- Support updates to the quoting system for new products, revisions, and pricing changes
- Maintain product data, performance metrics, and pricing inputs
Testing & Data Validation
- Test rule outputs to ensure accuracy of product selection, performance calculations, and pricing
- Identify and document system issues, inconsistencies, and errors
- Work with SQL-based systems and internal databases to validate and organize data
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with application engineers, product teams, IT, and sales support to gather requirements and implement updates
- Participate in meetings to review product changes, new features, and system improvements
Sales Support & Customer Interaction
- Assist internal and external customers with quoting questions and product selections
- Support order entry processes to ensure configurations align with system rules
- Provide additional support during high-volume quoting periods
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve rule logic, simplify processes, and enhance system usability
- Incorporate user feedback and real-world application needs into system improvements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical field (preferred)
- 0–3 years of experience in HVAC, engineering support, technical sales support, data analysis, or similar role
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think through logic-based processes
- Basic understanding of databases and data structures (SQL Server experience is a plus)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas and data analysis
- Experience with CPQ tools, rule-based systems, or product configuration software (preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate across engineering, IT, and sales teams
