Job SummaryLooking for a lead-from-the-front, professional Maintenance Support Engineer ready to charge into battle. We need a strategic Support Engineer to be the expert in our high-volume, highly automated steel parts factory. With 7+ years of heavy industrial experience, you'll lead data-driven troubleshooting, foster a culture of safety, and ensure our defense-critical operations run with unyielding precision and efficiency. This role focuses on the ongoing care, maintenance, and optimization of heavy industrial equipment in a forging factory environment, ensuring equipment reliability through condition-based maintenance strategies, while providing hands-on training to maintenance technicians on servicing, troubleshooting, and overhauling machinery. Expect high stakes, tight deadlines, and a hands-on, "in the trenches" approach to keep our factory fortified.
Key Responsibilities- System Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide Level 2 technical support for operators and maintenance teams, including reactive maintenance during breakdowns to prioritize quick resolutions and minimize production disruptions.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on equipment failures and coordinate disassembly, repair, reassembly, and testing during overhaul projects.
- Scheduled & Condition Based Maintenance
- Develop and execute maintenance schedules for robotic and forging equipment, including condition-based maintenance programs using predictive analytics, vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis.
- Monitor system health using IoT/SCADA dashboards and predictive analytics to prevent failures and extend equipment lifespan.
- Analyze equipment data to recommend upgrades, modifications, or replacements that improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), reduce costs, and align with forging industry best practices.
- Process Optimization
- Collaborate with process engineers to improve uptime, throughput, and quality in forging operations.
- Recommend upgrades, retrofits, and software patches for robotics and control systems.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts, such as total productive maintenance (TPM) and lean manufacturing initiatives, to optimize equipment performance.
- Documentation & Training
- Maintain detailed logs of incidents, resolutions, system changes, and updates to computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for compliance and future reference.
- Train and mentor operators and maintenance technicians on safe and efficient use of robotic systems, proper service procedures, troubleshooting techniques, and overhaul methods.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with robotics engineers, forging specialists, process engineers, quality assurance, suppliers, and IT/OT teams to resolve equipment-related problems and drive process improvements.
- Support integration of new automation technologies into existing workflows.
- Provide periodic online or in-person support during off-shifts, nights, and weekends as needed to address urgent issues and maintain operational continuity.
Qualifications- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience); advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., CMRP, PE) are a plus.
- Experience:
- 5+ years in technical support, sustaining engineering, robotics, or advanced manufacturing roles, preferably in a forging factory or heavy industrial environment.
- Hands-on experience with industrial robots (e.g., FANUC, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa), CNC/PLC systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and heavy equipment like forging presses.
- Desired Skills:
- Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and software domains, including PLC programming, HMI systems, and industrial networking.
- Familiarity with forging processes, metallurgy basics, high-temperature environments, CMMS software, ERP systems, and tools like SolidWorks for design and documentation.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and training abilities for mentoring technicians and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Knowledge of safety standards (e.g., IOSH, lockout/tagout) and regulatory compliance in manufacturing.
This role is perfect for someone who thrives at the intersection of robotics, manufacturing, and problem-solving-keeping mission-critical systems running in one of the most advanced forging environments in the world.
