Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP is seeking a Tax Manager to join the Finance Team in Winston-Salem, NC or Phoenix, AZ. The Tax Manager will lead the firm's tax strategy, compliance, and planning, with a specific focus on pass-through entity (PTE) taxes and composite taxes. This role requires expertise in addressing the tax complexities unique to a partnership entity. The ideal candidate will work closely with the firm's leadership, finance, and external advisors to manage risk and ensure compliance across jurisdictions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- Oversee compliance with federal, state and local tax regulations, including income sourcing rules and multi-state tax obligations.
- Manage the preparation and review of federal, state, and local partnership tax returns, including composite and withholding filings.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all tax liabilities in alignment with applicable laws and regulations.
- Lead the Firm's response to US tax audits and inquiries from US tax authorities.
- Lead point of contact for US partners and senior Business Service personnel on US taxes as they impact the individual and the Firm.
- Oversee the Firm's 1099 reporting, property tax filings, sales and use tax filings and local tax reporting
- Advise on the impact of new tax laws and regulations, with a focus on pass-through entity taxes and multi-state filing requirements.
- Evaluate the tax implications of firm transactions, including partner admissions, withdrawals, and profit-sharing arrangements.
- Address partnership-specific tax issues, including allocation of income, deductions, and credits to partners.
- Manage the withholding obligations and tax payments for resident and non-resident partners.
- Oversee compliance with state-level pass-through entity tax regimes and ensure accurate reporting to partners.
- Partner with the CFO, CAO and Finance to align tax strategies with the firm's financial objectives.
- Provide education and guidance to partners and firm leadership on tax matters impacting their individual and collective tax obligations.
- Supervise and mentor staff or external advisors supporting tax compliance and planning.
REQUIREMENTS:- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Current CPA license
- Minimum of 10 years of tax experience (Law Firm or Other Professional Services preferred).
- Extensive knowledge of partnership tax issues, including income allocation and partner tax reporting.
- Experience with income sourcing, composite taxes, and pass-through entity taxes across multiple jurisdictions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals.
- Proven leadership abilities with experience managing teams and collaborating across departments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Word.
COMPENSATION: $120,200-$198,000 is the estimated national average. Starting salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
