CNC SETUP MACHINIST – 5-AXIS MILLS

Pay: $33–$45 per hour, depending on experience
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 2:00 PM–12:30 AM
Four 10-hour shifts | Every Friday off
Overtime may be available
ABC Sheet Metal / Steeldyne Industries is hiring an experienced CNC Setup Machinist to independently set up and operate 5-axis and 3-axis CNC mills.
You will work from prepared CNC programs, complete machine setups, prove out jobs, verify the first piece, and run production. This position requires someone who can troubleshoot machining issues and inspect their own work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Complete setups, including tooling, fixtures, workholding, offsets, and part alignment.
• Prove out programs and verify first-piece dimensions before production.
• Read blueprints and GD&T and make basic G-code edits at the machine.
• Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
• Build and modify soft jaws, fixtures, and setup tooling.
• Troubleshoot dimensional and surface-finish issues; adjust tooling, offsets, speeds, and feeds as needed.
• Work with programming, quality, and production personnel to resolve issues.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
• Six or more years of CNC setup and machining experience.
• Independent 5-axis CNC mill setup experience.
• Experience setting up and operating 3-axis CNC mills.
• Strong blueprint reading, GD&T, and precision measurement skills.
• Experience with program prove-out, basic G-code edits, and custom workholding.
• Ability to work independently in a precision machining or job-shop environment.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
• Haas UMC-Series mills and Haas or Renishaw probing.
• Mastercam or familiarity with Mastercam-generated programs.
• Aerospace manufacturing or an AS9100 / ISO 9001 environment.
• Machining aluminum, stainless steel, or titanium.
• Secondary machining of sheet metal parts, weldments, or fabricated assemblies.
• Lathe setup or operation.
