Summary
The Production Control Supervisor coordinates and expedites the flow of work and materials within and between departments according to the daily and weekly production schedule. The primary goal is to ensure maximum manufacturing efficiency, minimize downtime, and guarantee on-time delivery to customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Shop Scheduling & Dispatch: Create and update the daily dispatch list for CNC machines and manual workstations, prioritizing jobs based on material arrival, tooling availability, and lead times.
- Material Tracking & Expediting: Physically track job travelers and aerospace materials through the shop floor, identifying and removing bottlenecks between machining, processing, and inspection.
- Team Supervision: Directly lead, mentor, and assist material handlers, shipping/receiving personnel, or junior schedulers in their daily routines.
- AS9100 & Customer Compliance: Ensure all production documentation, material certifications, and traceability records comply with aerospace regulations and customer blueprints.
- Capacity & Tooling Coordination: Collaborate with the shop foreman, programmers, and purchasing to ensure tooling, raw stock, and outside processing vendors are aligned with the production schedule.
- System Management: Maintain and update work-in-progress (WIP) and inventory data within the shop's ERP/MRP system, ensuring accurate lead times and tracking metrics.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or material control within a precision machine shop or manufacturing environment.
- Industry Knowledge: Proven familiarity with aerospace manufacturing workflows, blue-print reading, and traceability requirements (AS9100 standard preferred).
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. A technical trade school background or relevant professional certifications are a plus, but practical shop experience is highly prioritized over a college degree.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency using machine shop ERP software (such as JobBOSS, E2, or similar manufacturing systems) and basic Microsoft Excel skills.
- Core Competencies: Practical problem-solving abilities, a clear communication style suited for a collaborative shop environment, and a strong sense of accountability.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
