Job Description
The tester operator tests manufactured printed circuit boards using dedicated test equipment and computer-based tools. This role involves connecting multiple cables to each board, running pass/fail tests, documenting results, and ensuring that boards are sorted accurately based on test outcomes. The tester operator maintains a clean, organized, and ESD-compliant workstation while supporting quality control and lean manufacturing practices.
Responsibilities
- Connect printed circuit boards to test equipment using multiple cables and verify that all connections are properly attached before initiating tests.
- Run standardized pass/fail tests on printed circuit boards according to established testing processes and procedures.
- Sort boards into pass and fail groups based on test results, ensuring accurate handling and traceability.
- Complete detailed reports for failed boards, including documenting error codes and any relevant observations.
- Perform visual and functional inspection of parts to support quality control and quality assurance requirements.
- Use a computer and multiple software programs, including an MES system, to perform data entry, record test results, and track production flow.
- Maintain the test workstation, including the computer, cables, hand tools, and other equipment, ensuring they are in proper working condition.
- Follow 5S and lean manufacturing principles to keep the work area clean, organized, and efficient.
- Adhere strictly to ESD (electrostatic discharge) environment controls and requirements when handling printed circuit boards and electronic components.
- Support inspection activities by identifying issues, escalating concerns, and contributing to continuous improvement of testing processes.
- Collaborate with the manufacturing team and align with team goals and culture to ensure smooth production and testing operations.
- Comply with all facility policies, including the strict no phone policy on the manufacturing floor.
Essential Skills
- Experience with quality control and inspecting parts in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Knowledge of testing processes and procedures for electronic assemblies or printed circuit boards.
- Ability to work confidently on computers and navigate multiple computer programs.
- Experience performing accurate and timely data entry in production or test systems.
- Quality assurance mindset with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to use hand tools safely and effectively in a manufacturing or electronics environment.
- Familiarity with printed circuit boards (PCB) and basic electronics concepts.
- Experience working with an MES (Manufacturing Execution System).
- Previous experience in electronics or PCBA (printed circuit board assembly) manufacturing is strongly preferred.

Work Environment
This role operates in a manufacturing facility with a Monday to Friday schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with very little overtime expected, if any. All team members take the same 30-minute meal break at the same time each day, supporting a consistent and predictable routine. The environment is an ESD-controlled area, and employees must understand and follow all ESD requirements when handling electronic components and printed circuit boards. The workstation includes a computer, multiple cables, and hand tools, which the tester operator uses and maintains as part of daily work. The culture values long-term team members and expects new hires to align with the manufacturing team's goals and collaborative working style. There is a strict no phone policy on the manufacturing floor; use of phones in this area is not permitted and violation of this policy can result in release from the job.
Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
