Position Summary
The PM Restaurant Hostess is responsible for creating a warm and welcoming first impression for guests while efficiently managing the restaurant's front-of-house seating operation. This position greets and seats guests, manages reservations and waitlists, coordinates table availability with the service team, and provides professional assistance throughout the guest experience.
The Hostess works closely with servers, bussers, restaurant management, and other hotel departments to ensure smooth evening operations and consistently high standards of hospitality.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Guest Service:
-Greet and welcome every guest in a friendly, professional, and genuine manner.
-Escort guests to their tables and provide menus as appropriate.
-Respond to guest questions regarding the restaurant, menu, hours, hotel amenities, and services.
-Recognize returning guests, VIPs, special occasions, and guest preferences whenever possible.
-Thank guests as they depart and provide a warm farewell.
-Handle guest concerns professionally and promptly involve management when necessary.
Reservations & Seating Management:
-Manage reservations, walk-ins, and waitlists using the restaurant reservation system.
-Confirm reservations and accurately record guest information and special requests.
-Monitor table availability and coordinate seating with servers and restaurant management.
-Maintain an appropriate seating rotation to support balanced server sections.
-Communicate VIP arrivals, celebrations, dietary concerns, and other important guest information to the service team.
-Provide accurate wait-time estimates and keep waiting guests informed.
-Coordinate table turns during high-volume dinner periods.
Restaurant Operations:
-Maintain a clean, organized, and professional host stand and restaurant entrance.
-Ensure menus and other guest materials are clean and properly presented.
-Assist with table resets and dining room preparation when needed.
-Monitor the dining room and promptly communicate cleanliness, maintenance, or service issues to management.
-Assist the service team during periods of high volume while maintaining primary hostess responsibilities.
-Follow all opening, operating, and closing procedures for the PM restaurant.
Communication:
-Maintain clear and professional communication with servers, bussers, managers, kitchen personnel, and hotel departments.
-Answer incoming restaurant telephone calls promptly and professionally.
-Provide accurate information regarding reservations, restaurant hours, menu offerings, and hotel services.
-Communicate guest preferences, requests, and concerns to the appropriate team member.
-Participate in pre-shift meetings and remain informed about daily events, promotions, large parties, and VIP arrivals.
PM Shift Responsibilities:
-In Room Dining order taking and delivery.
-Review reservations, VIPs, special occasions, groups, and anticipated business levels before service.
-Prepare the host stand and restaurant entrance for evening service.
-Monitor guest flow and seating throughout dinner service.
-Maintain effective communication with the PM Manager and service team during peak periods.
-Assist with end-of-evening guest service and closing procedures.
-Leave the host stand organized, clean, and prepared for the following shift.
-Marketplace restocking.
Guest Recovery:
-Listen attentively to guest concerns and demonstrate empathy and professionalism.
-Resolve minor concerns within the scope of the position.
-Immediately notify the Restaurant Manager or PM Supervisor of significant complaints or service recovery situations.
-Document guest feedback or incidents when required.
-Maintain a positive and professional demeanor during challenging guest interactions.
Standards & Compliance:
-Follow all hotel and restaurant policies, procedures, and service standards.
-Follow food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and responsible alcohol-service policies.
-Maintain a clean, professional uniform and personal appearance.
-Protect guest privacy and confidential information.
-Demonstrate knowledge of hotel and restaurant standards and procedures.
-Consistently demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, reliability, and a service-oriented attitude.
Qualifications:
-Previous restaurant, hotel, hospitality, or customer-service experience preferred.
-Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
-Ability to remain calm and organized in a high-volume environment.
-Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
-Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
-Basic computer and reservation-system proficiency preferred.
-Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
-Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other high-volume business periods.
