POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a seasonal position at YMCA Camp DeBoer, a camp and conference center located on the beautiful shores of Lake of the Woods. This role supports the overall cleanliness and operation of the camp through a combination of housekeeping and kitchen support duties. Primary responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining cabins, the lodge, restrooms, and other camp facilities to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for campers, guests and staff. The position also assists in the kitchen by washing and sanitizing dishes and kitchen wares for both front- and back-of-house use, and by supporting general kitchen and dining area tasks as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with kitchen sanitation and dishwashing operations
- Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment.
- Wash all wares including pots, pans, flatware, and glassware by hand or using a commercial dishwasher.
- Properly place and store clean dishes, equipment, and utensils in assigned storage areas.
- Stock serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, and other designated areas with necessary dishes and utensils.
- Assist with basic food service tasks such as cleaning or serving on the food service line as directed.
- Maintain safe, clean and organized work areas in accordance with all company, local, and state health and sanitation regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Clean and maintain cabins, lodge areas, restrooms, and other camp facilities to ensure a sanitary and welcoming environment.
- Sweep and mop floors, wash windows and screens, and maintain the cleanliness of assigned areas throughout the camp on a daily basis.
- Clean and restock shower houses and main lodge bathrooms daily with necessary supplies.
- Collect and dispose of trash from cabins, lodge areas and common spaces.
- Assist with maintaining the overall appearance and cleanliness of camp facilities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Desire to work and live in a camp setting preferred.
- Knowledge of or experience in housekeeping and dishwashing preferred.
- Must have or obtain a Food Handlers Card.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Physical ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing/walking for long
periods of time (60 minutes or more).
- Ability to safely and properly use kitchen equipment.
- Ability to assist campers and staff in an emergency.
