HEAD YOUTH PERFORMANCE COACH (FULL-TIME)
APX Athlete Lab, El Cajon, CA (San Diego County)
Pay: $22-34/hour, W-2, depending on certifications and experience
Schedule: 30-40 hrs/week. Weekday afternoons/evenings and Saturday mornings for classes, plus daytime hours for testing appointments, equipment prep, and admin.
ABOUT US
APX Athlete Lab is a new youth performance testing and training facility in El Cajon. We test athletes ages 8-18+ on VALD equipment (ForceDecks, ForceFrame, HumanTrak, SmartSpeed timing gates) and run speed and agility classes grouped by age and ability. Every session is run by a coach. We don't have open gym, free weights, or unsupervised training.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Run VALD assessments (jump testing, isometric strength, movement screens, timed sprints and agility) using our testing protocols
- Coach small-group speed, agility, and movement classes for each age group
- Go over test results with athletes and parents in plain language
- Keep athlete records current in our testing and CRM systems
- Set up, calibrate, and take care of the equipment
- Follow our child safety policies, including the two-adult supervision rule
WHAT WE REQUIRE
- Current NASM-CPT, NASM-PES, NSCA-CSCS, or an equivalent accredited certification
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid
- 21 or older
- At least a year coaching youth athletes (team coaching, camps, or facility work all count)
- Comfortable coaching kids as young as 8 and talking with parents
- Full-time availability including afternoon/evening classes and Saturdays
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with VALD or similar tech (force plates, timing gates, motion capture)
- Track and field or speed development background
- Experience coaching more than one sport
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
We work with minors, so California law (Business & Professions Code section 18975, AB 506) and our own policies require the following before you start:
- Pass a DOJ/FBI LiveScan fingerprint background check
- Complete California mandated reporter training
- Complete concussion and sudden cardiac arrest training (free NFHS online courses accepted)
- Pass an annual national sex offender registry check
- Follow our written child safety policy, including two-adult supervision
