Elmhurst University seeks part-time faculty to join the vibrant professional teaching and learning community in First-Year Writing during fall term 2026. All first-year writing courses meet in person in computer-assisted writing labs. Enrollment in first-year writing courses is generally capped at 18 students.
Position Status: Exempt
Salary Range: The pay range is $3,800-$4,000 for a standard 1.0 credit (4 semester hour) course. New part-time faculty start at $3,800 (Adjunct Level 1).
Work Location: This position is
ineligible for remote work.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include teaching 1 to 3 sections of Composition I and/or II, including in-person instruction and regular assessment of student learning outcomes. Additionally, ENG 200: Introduction to Literature may also be a possible course to teach, pending availability.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. Responsibilities for this adjunct faculty position include course preparation including syllabus development, teaching, grading and being available to students who have questions or require extra help.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- M.A. in English or comparable degree
- Experience teaching first-year composition or other introductory writing course
- Demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse student body and contributing positively to an inclusive campus community
- Training or background in contemporary rhetoric and composition pedagogy preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching undergraduates
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
The essential functions of this position are primarily performed in an indoor setting with limited exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Work is often sedentary in nature and requires remaining in a stationary position for extended periods. Required abilities include speaking and hearing for in-person and virtual communication, using close and distance vision when reading documents or viewing screens, and performing tasks with repetitive fine motor skills. Work may require occasional lifting, bending, carrying, or otherwise moving objects weighing up to 15 pounds.
