Role Overview****
A skilled laborer working under a general contractor is a hands-on tradesperson who performs specialized construction tasks, supports the contractor’s team, and ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to quality standards. This role bridges the gap between the contractor’s oversight and the day-to-day execution of trades.
Key Responsibilities****
Operate and maintain hand and power tools, as well as heavy construction equipment such as drills, jackhammers, compactors, trenchers, backhoes, and front-end loaders
Assist skilled trades (carpenters, plumbers, electricians, bricklayers, drywallers, roofers) with their tasks.
Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment to and from job sites.
Erect, assemble, and dismantle scaffolding, barricades, temporary structures, and bracing.
Prepare and maintain work sites by removing hazards, cleaning obstacles, and disposing of waste.
Measure, cut, shape, and install materials according to blueprints and project specifications.
Perform basic maintenance and repair tasks as needed.
Follow all safety regulations, health and safety codes, and site procedures to protect workers and the public.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and clients to ensure tasks are completed correctly.
Complete on-the-job training and be willing to learn new skills or adapt to different trade requirements.
Qualifications & Skills****
High school diploma or equivalent; apprenticeship or vocational training in a construction trade preferred.
Experience in construction, preferably in a general contractor’s environment.
Proficiency with a variety of hand and power tools, and familiarity with heavy machinery operation.
Strong physical stamina to work in varied weather conditions.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints or project plans.
Excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills.
Positive attitude, teamwork, and willingness to learn.
Must have valid Driver's License and Insurance and able to pass background check.
Work Environment****
Outdoor, often in varying weather conditions.
Exposure to dust, noise, and heavy equipment.
Requires flexibility to work on multiple projects and shifts.
PAY: $30-$40 hourly based on experience.
