Distinct Construction Solutions is a rapidly growing residential and commercial general contracting company specializing in custom homes, ADUs, additions, major renovations, and ground-up construction throughout San Diego County.
We are seeking an experienced **Construction Finance Controller** who will take complete ownership of our company's financial operations. This is not a bookkeeping position. We are looking for a financial leader with extensive construction accounting experience who can provide executive-level financial oversight and ensure our company maintains complete visibility over every dollar that enters and leaves the business.

# Position Summary
The Construction Finance Controller will oversee all financial operations of the company, including accounting, budgeting, cash flow management, project financial reporting, job costing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, forecasting, and financial controls.
This individual will work directly with ownership and will be responsible for ensuring that company finances remain organized, accurate, and transparent at all times.
This position requires someone who understands the unique financial challenges of the construction industry, including progress billing, job costing, subcontractor compliance, retention, change orders, and project profitability.

# Daily Executive Financial Dashboard
Every morning, ownership should receive a comprehensive financial report including:
### Cash Position
* Current operating account balance
* Savings account balance
* Payroll account balance
* Total available cash reserves
### Cash Flow Report
* Beginning cash balance
* Money received
* Payments made
* Payroll expenses
* Material purchases
* Ending cash balance
* 30-day, 60-day, and 90-day cash flow forecast
### Accounts Receivable
* Outstanding invoices
* Aging report (0–30, 31–60, 61–90, and 90+ days)
* Collections requiring immediate attention
* Client payment status
### Accounts Payable
* Bills due today
* Bills due this week
* Bills due this month
* Past due vendor invoices
* Upcoming payment obligations
### Project Budget Dashboard
For every active project:
* Contract value
* Approved change orders
* Original budget
* Actual costs to date
* Remaining budget
* Estimated cost to complete

# Primary Responsibilities
* Manage all company accounting operations
* Manage Accounts Receivable (AR)
* Manage Accounts Payable (AP)
* Maintain accurate job costing for every project
* Track project budgets versus actual costs
* Monitor project profitability
* Prepare financial reports for ownership
* Prepare weekly and monthly financial statements
* Perform bank reconciliations
* Maintain accurate cash flow forecasts
* Manage vendor payments
* Coordinate subcontractor compliance documentation
* Track W-9s
* Track Certificates of Insurance (COIs)
* Track preliminary notices
* Track conditional and unconditional lien waivers
* Coordinate payroll processing
* Monitor overhead expenses
* Assist ownership with financial planning and decision-making
* Coordinate directly with our CPA for tax preparation and year-end reporting
* Maintain strong financial controls throughout the company

# Required Qualifications
**NO EXCEPTIONS**
* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is REQUIRED.
* Minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience.
* Minimum of three (3) years of construction accounting experience.
* Extensive knowledge of construction financial management.
Must have experience with:
* Construction job costing
* Progress billing
* Budget management
* Cash flow forecasting
* Work In Progress (WIP) reporting
* Retention accounting
* Change orders
* Accounts Receivable
* Accounts Payable
* Payroll
* Financial reporting
* Bank reconciliations
* Construction contract accounting

Highly Preferred:
* Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
* Experience managing finances for a growing construction company
* Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
* Experience with QuickBooks Online
* Experience with Buildertrend or similar construction management software
