As we continue to grow, we are expanding our in-house engineering and detailing capabilities and are seeking a CAD Designer to support the development of fabrication, assembly, and construction drawings for complex bridge and structural steel projects.
Position Summary
The CAD Designer plays a critical role in supporting the Engineering team by creating, revising, and maintaining detailed production drawings for bridge and structural steel projects. This position owns drafting execution, allowing Engineers to focus on higher-level design, analysis, and project execution.
The ideal candidate enjoys transforming engineering concepts into clear, accurate, and buildable drawings while collaborating closely with engineering, fabrication, quality, and operations teams. This role will have an immediate impact as Bridge Brothers continues to bring more detailing and drafting functions in-house.
Responsibilities
CAD & Drafting
- Create, revise, and maintain production, detail, and assembly drawings.
- Develop fabrication and construction drawings with all required views, dimensions, tolerances, and notes.
- Produce finished drawings from engineering sketches, markups, and design concepts.
- Draft detailed multi-view drawings of structural components, assemblies, and bridge systems.
- Utilize CAD software to support project execution from concept through fabrication and installation.
Technical Execution
- Verify dimensions, materials, part relationships, and constructability.
- Perform basic calculations involving angles, dimensions, weights, radii, tolerances, and clearances.
- Apply engineering and drafting principles to produce accurate, buildable drawings.
- Support engineers by ensuring drawing packages are complete and ready for fabrication.
Standards & Coordination
- Maintain drafting and engineering standards.
- Manage drawing revisions and file organization.
- Maintain drawing databases and project documentation.
- Coordinate with Engineering, QA, Fabrication, and Manufacturing teams regarding drawing updates and revisions.
- Assist with CAD file conversions and system updates as needed.
- Support continuous improvement efforts across engineering and detailing processes.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Drafting, CAD Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and drafting experience will be considered.
- Experience with AutoCAD required.
- Experience with SolidWorks, Tekla, Inventor, Revit, or other 3D modeling software is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical documents, and fabrication packages.
- Strong understanding of drafting standards and engineering terminology.
- Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to learn new software and systems as needed.
