Position Summary
Perform a variety of tasks in support of Parks and Recreation facilities operations including the development and implementation of educational programs, coordination of routine maintenance, conducting tours and accounting for reservation fees; promote community involvement in recreational programs and perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Essential And Supplemental Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Perform a variety of tasks in support of Parks and Open Space facilities operations including the development and implementation of educational programs, coordinating routine maintenance, recruiting and training of volunteers and conducting tours of Park and Open Space areas.
- Research, develop, coordinate and present educational programs concerning the natural environment, cultural resources, history and philosophy of Parks and Open Space facilities.
- Promote public awareness of programs and services by attending meetings, participating on committees, special events, media releases, PSA's, distribution of fact sheets, etc.
- Perform routine inspections of Parks and Open Space areas; check for vandalism, possible violations or present status of lands, signs or fencing.
- Recruit, train, assign and evaluate volunteers; coordinate educational programs: assist to develop volunteer program guidelines and policies.
- Coordinate and assist with the cultural and environmental studies of developed and undeveloped park sites; determine potential impacts of developing sites; recommend policies for public use.
- May develop and implement various educational activities including interpretive tours, exhibits, displays and interactive discussions.
- May coordinate routine maintenance tasks including cleaning rest-rooms, emptying trash, sweeping trails, pulling weeds and opening or closing gates.
- May maintain database of maintenance requests.
- May develop and conduct tours and hikes on natural and cultural history of the Parks and Open Space facilities; conduct research into the flora and fauna of these areas.
- May account for reservation fees; participate in the reservation process.
- May evaluate recreation permits, leases, concessions and other special use agreements; explain guidelines to the public regarding the use of Parks and Open Space facilities.
- May research, plan and coordinate the formulation of interpretive signs, trail markings, brochures and other informational materials.
- May oversee the preparation of payroll for Resident Park Attendants.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform first aid as necessary.
- Attend meetings, seminars and training programs. Attend training sessions as needed; conduct training sessions for volunteers.
- Maintain awareness of new developments in the field assigned; incorporate new developments as appropriate into programs.
- Participate on boards and committees relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental sciences, business administration or park management;
and
Four (4) years of parks, open space, or outdoor recreational program implementation experience.
Additional Requirements
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or have the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP), or ability to obtain six (6) months from date of hire.
May be required to work weekends/odd days off

Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for; moderate or light lifting; for walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping; kneeling, crawling for prolonged periods of time; operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
