Senior Manager, Senior Counsel - Small Business Bank Business Counsel (Hybrid)
We are seeking an attorney to support the growing Small Business Bank and to advise the leadership on the Small Business Bank’s most strategic and complex initiatives. In this role, you will form a strategic partnership with senior leaders and help shape the future of Capital One Small Business Bank, which is dedicated to supporting the growth and success of small businesses and their owners.
This position will have responsibility for:
Strategic Counseling: Act as a thought partner to business clients, providing proactive, business-minded legal advice.
Risk Management: Identify and assess legal risks associated with our lending and deposit products, ensuring we balance innovation with compliance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with the Business Risk Office, Compliance, and other Legal stakeholders to develop creative solutions and resolve issues.
Navigating Complexity: Master the full landscape of relevant laws and apply them to novel problem solving for new technology and data.

Basic Qualifications
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
At least 4 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel
Preferred Qualifications:
3+ years of experience with consumer finance laws and regulations
3+ years of experience in the financial services industry
Experience in advising small businesses or commercial clients, or a combination
Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence others
6+ years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel

This role is hybrid, meaning associates spend 3 days per week in-person at one of our offices listed on this job posting.
The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Chicago, IL: $182,500 - $208,300 for Sr. Manager, Sr. Counsel
McLean, VA: $200,700 - $229,100 for Sr. Manager, Sr. Counsel
Richmond, VA: $182,500 - $208,300 for Sr. Manager, Sr. Counsel
Riverwoods, IL: $182,500 - $208,300 for Sr. Manager, Sr. Counsel
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
