As Vice President, Business Development, you will drive strategic partnerships across the biopharma ecosystem, accelerate growth, and play a critical role in bringing breakthrough diagnostics and therapies to patients worldwide.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Define and execute the business development strategy for Guardant’s Biopharma organization, including partnership models, collaboration frameworks, and revenue growth initiatives.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with senior executives across the drug development continuum—from discovery and translational oncology through clinical and commercial—to drive adoption of Guardant Health’s technologies.
- Lead high-impact customer and partner engagements, representing Guardant Health at the executive level and clearly articulating the value of Guardant’s platform across clinical trials, companion diagnostics, and drug commercialization.
- Partner cross-functionally with Product Development, Clinical Development, Laboratory Operations, Bioinformatics, Marketing, Scientific Affairs, and Regulatory teams to deliver integrated, partner-centric solutions.
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing business development team, driving accountability, strategic execution, and commercial excellence.
- Serve as a member of the Senior Management Team, contributing to enterprise strategy, growth planning, and organizational leadership.
- Align internal capabilities with partner needs, fostering collaboration and driving solutions that leverage Guardant’s scientific and commercial strengths.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree (PhD, MD, MBA) preferred.
- 15+ years of business development experience in life sciences, diagnostics, or precision medicine, including significant leadership and team management responsibility.
- Demonstrated success building and leading high-performing teams and consistently achieving or exceeding revenue targets.
- Deep expertise in precision oncology, molecular diagnostics, and genomics, including strong knowledge of NGS technologies, liquid biopsy, and translational research.
- Proven track record of structuring, negotiating, and closing complex, high-value partnerships that drive sustained business growth.
- Strong understanding of oncology pipelines, targeted therapies, and precision medicine trends, including regulatory and companion diagnostic considerations.
- Established network of senior relationships across biopharma and translational medicine, with the ability to generate and accelerate strategic opportunities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across functions and levels, and effectively translate complex scientific and strategic concepts into clear, compelling value propositions.
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical capability, and sound business judgment.
- Experienced people leader with a track record of developing talent and fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture.
- Entrepreneurial and results-oriented, with the ability to balance long-term strategy and near-term execution.
Hybrid Work Model:This section is applicable to onsite employees who are eligible for hybrid work location as specified by management and related policies. Guardant has defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. This range does not include benefits or, if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity. Each candidate’s compensation offer will be based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, geography, experience, education, job-related skills, job duties, and business need.

Other US Location(s) Base Pay Range: $283,400 - $389,700
If the role is performed in Colorado, the pay range for this job is: $237,600 - $326,700
Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
