We have an opening in our R&D organization for an entry level Biostatistics scientist to work at the intersection of world class statistics, biotechnology and seed product design to bring the power of accelerated genetic gain and optimized biotechnology traits to our customers. This position will reside within the Seed Product Development Biostatistics team. This team discovers, adapts, and develops state-of-the-art statistical methodology and computational algorithms that help convert, through deployment of machine learning software systems and artificial intelligence agents, into actionable insights, real-time, high-volume data streams to inform optimized seed and biotechnology product design.
We are looking for an inquisitive, detailed oriented, eager to learn statistician with an interest in seed and biotechnology product design who wants to join a world class Biostatistics team.
What You'll Do:
Research, develop, and implement statistical methodology and computational algorithms to enable optimized experimental design, analysis and interpretation of biotechnology efficacy trials (insect, herbicide and disease traits). Support biotechnology trait advancements and provide statistical expert support for data analysis and actionable insights to be leveraged in global regulatory submissions.
Recommend and consult on state-of-the-art field and trial experimental designs and associated statistical analyses to enable continuous optimization of high value agronomic performance data collection and use. Support data and insights driven biotechnology trait advancements for optimized agronomic performance through pipeline stages and gateways.
Recommend and consult on the use of state-of-the-art statistical analysis and of data driven actionable insights to support biotechnology trait resistance research in support of stewardship and sustainability initiatives. Contribute, in partnership with subject matter experts, towards development of resistance management strategies to support global regulatory submissions.
Collaborate with biotechnology trait characterization and development scientists to answer key experimental design and statistical inference questions based on power analyses performed through theoretical and/or simulation modelling frameworks to enable continuous optimization of biotechnology product development and characterization.
Provide statistical consultation and training to the seed and biotechnology product design community on internal experimental design, statistical analysis frameworks and software systems that facilitate conversion of data into actionable insights for optimized product design and characterization.
Ability to work both as an independent scientist and as a member of larger expert teams, to actively identify and provide focused statistical expert advice to seed and biotechnology scientists.
Participation in external collaborations and scientific publications is encouraged.
What Skills You Need:
PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics or Mathematics
Strong interest in experimental design, statistical theory and demonstrated ability to convert statistical methodology in software systems through mindful use of modern AI systems e.g. Claude
Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with individuals of diverse language, cultural, and scientific backgrounds
Solid foundation in applied statistical science with experience in use of mixed linear model methodology in Frequentist and Bayesian contexts and use of generalized mixed models
Demonstrated statistical computing programming skills. Expert knowledge of SAS, R, Python or related scientific computing languages. Ability and confidence to manage and manipulate large data sets. Proficiency in using, when appropriate, large language models for statistical applications. Ability and interest to contribute towards the development, testing, and deployment of internal scientific software and artificial intelligence agents to accelerate and optimize biotechnology product development and characterization processes.
Knowledge of basic principles of plant breeding, traditional and precision phenotyping, plant physiology and gene editing are a plus but not a requirement. Interest and willingness to learn about and operate in a commercial seed business setting is a requirement.
