Job Description
SUMMARY
The
Vice President – Global Technology is a senior enterprise leader accountable for establishing and executing a multiyear (1–3 year) technology and solutions vision that enables Expeditors’ strategic priorities, supports global operations, and delivers customer-facing solutions and integrations at global scale, aligned to measurable customer and business outcomes.
This role is expected to provide executive leadership in the responsible adoption of AI enabled capabilities as a core component of Expeditors’ long-term technology and business strategy.
This role owns a designated global customer and capability portfolio and operates at the enterprise level—shaping strategy, influencing cross functional decisions, and ensuring technology solutions are resilient, secure, scalable, and aligned with long-term business objectives. The Vice President leads through empowered leaders and teams, balancing innovation, operational excellence, risk management, and financial stewardship.
The Vice President works in close partnership with Executive Leadership, Enterprise Committees, the Board of Directors, global operations, customers, service providers, and technical leaders to ensure Expeditors remains competitive and industry leading in the global logistics landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Strategy & Vision
- Establish and communicate a clear, forward-looking (1–3 year) technology and solutions strategy aligned with company objectives and global business priorities.
- Translate enterprise strategy into executable roadmaps that balance near-term delivery with long-term scalability, resilience, and sustainability.
- Anticipate industry, technology, and logistics trends to ensure Expeditors remains relevant, competitive, and positioned for growth.
AI Strategy & Responsible Adoption
- Establish a clear, enterprise-level point of view on the role of artificial intelligence and automation in enabling Expeditors’ customer experience.
- Identify, prioritize, and sponsor high value AI enabled opportunities across the Global Technology portfolio, balancing innovation, scalability, security, and risk.
- Lead and enable senior technology leaders to incorporate AI assisted capabilities into solution design, delivery practices, and operational models where they create meaningful business impact.
- Build organizational capability and fluency in AI by fostering a culture of learning, experimentation, and disciplined adoption across Global Technology.
Leadership & Culture
- Lead, coach, and develop senior technology leaders, fostering an environment of accountability, trust, respect, support, and continuous improvement.
- Build and sustain a strong leadership bench, including succession planning for critical roles and active development of future senior leaders.
- Model and instill Expeditors’ culture, values, and critical success factors in all decisions and interactions.
Enterprise Impact & Decision Authority
- Make and own enterprise level decisions with cross functional and global impact, balancing customer outcomes, operational risk, financial performance, and long-term organizational health.
- Orchestrate and lead high impact technology solutions delivery involving significant people, capital and operational investment.
- Represent Global Technology and Expeditors with customers, service providers, and external stakeholders.
Delivery Excellence & Governance
- Ensure timely delivery of technology solutions with clearly defined metrics, outcomes, and accountability.
- Ensure solutions meet enterprise architectural standards and are secure, resilient, compliant, and well-integrated with dependent systems.
- Establish and reinforce governance frameworks, standards, and operating models that enable consistent execution at scale.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Foster a strong culture of compliance by design informed by internal policies, operational standards, and external regulatory requirements.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate technology, operational, and delivery risks proactively.
- Ensure responsible innovation that balances speed, quality, and risk.
Financial Stewardship
- Own financial accountability for the portfolio, including strategic CapEx and OpEx investments.
- Ensure budgets align with company strategy and deliver clear return on investment.
- Articulate and defend business cases for major investments with executive leadership.
Stakeholder Engagement & Influence
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with executive peers, global operations leaders, customers, and service providers.
- Communicate complex technology topics clearly and effectively at the executive and board level.
- Influence across organizational boundaries to align priorities and drive enterprise outcomes.
Qualifications
Leadership & Experience
- Proven success as a Director, Senior Director, or equivalent senior technology leader with enterprise level scope and accountability.
- Demonstrated ability to lead leaders and deliver results through empowered teams.
- Experience operating in complex, global, and highly interdependent environments.
- Experience leading large, multi-disciplined teams with customer-facing solution delivery and operational accountability.
Strategic & Business Acumen
- Strong business and financial acumen, with experience aligning technology investments to business strategy.
- Deep understanding of logistics focused and customer-facing solutions, platforms, and operating models.
- Ability to balance competing priorities and make sound decisions with incomplete information.
Executive Presence & Communication
- Demonstrated executive presence with the ability to influence and represent the company externally.
- Exceptional communication skills—clear, concise, strategic, and credible with diverse audiences.
- Ability to explain complex topics in a way that drives alignment and action.
Technical & Operational Insight
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to oversee complex solution lifecycles and architectural decisions.
- Experience with governance frameworks, risk management, and modern delivery practices (e.g., agile, lean).
- Appreciation for innovation, design thinking, and human-centered approaches to solution delivery.
- Experience overseeing the adoption of AI assisted technologies and automation within complex, enterprise scale technology environments.
- Ability to evaluate AI opportunities and risks at a strategic level, ensuring solutions are resilient, secure, explainable, and aligned with long-term business objectives.
