TITLE: Controls Engineer FLSA: ExemptUPDATED: 07/25/2024 DIVISION: ALLREPORTS TO: Engineering Manager GRADE:Summary:Provide Electrical Controls Engineering support for department projects.
Essential Functions: - Designs, develops, and documents PLC software logic for extrusion, RPM, and automation projects.
- Advisement and participation in all robotic and automation installations.
- Installation and troubleshooting of Kuka, Fanuc, Yaskawa, or other robot cells.
- Lead / assist with final troubleshooting of all electrical and control systems.
- Troubleshoot Siemens, Allen Bradley, or other PLC's as necessary.
- Responsible for working with Quotation Engineering and other department managers to help define and understand task assignments and schedules as related to assigned projects.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics to repair/troubleshoot electrical systems.
- Knowledge and ability to design programs to common safety standards.
- Knowledge of high voltage systems and distribution.
- Knowledge of utility systems (water, air, hydraulic, etc).
- Working knowledge of process controls technology.
- Excellent working knowledge and experience of a wide variety of controls hardware-Relay logic, PLCs including ControlLogix, and CompLogix, Frequency Drives etc. Allen Bradley, and Siemens
- Proficient in controls and user interface software (FactoryTalk View ME/SE, RSLogix, RSLogix 5000, Panelview, and others)
- Experience working with Ethernet
- Mentor and develop other members of the controls engineering team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software product (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Autocad
- Participate and / or lead continuous improvement projects and process development.
- Maintain all internal documentation and reports, as assigned by management.

Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional office environment in our Florence facility. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines which create low-moderate noise.

Expected Hours of WorkThis is a salaried, exempt level, full-time position with standard working days/hours of Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm with overtime as necessary to complete required tasks. Actual working hours may vary.
TravelTravel is moderate, and some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected. Travel for system startups might include occasional through weekend stays. Travel to Germany or other international locations possible for training/conferences. Anticipated travel is 25%.
Required Education and Experience - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar field and 3 to 5 years' related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Solid knowledge of electrical codes and related regulations.
- Design competence of electrical circuits by use of AutoCAD systems.
Preferred Education and Experience - Knowledge of Allen Bradley PowerFlex Drive systems and AC motors as well as general programming skills a plus.
- Knowledge of Yaskawa Drive systems a plus.
- Familiar with UL, CSA, NFPA and OSHA requirements.
- Previous experience in capital equipment design and manufacturing.
