DescriptionThe Harker SchoolDirector of Enrichment and Supervision, Lower SchoolSan Jose, California | Full-Time | Benefited PositionApplication Deadline: June 27, 2025Expected Salary Range: $75k - 90k (based on experience)Position SummaryThe Lower School Director of BEST (Bucknall Enrichment & Supervision Team) is responsible for the planning, implementation, and oversight of the Lower School's enrichment and supervision programs before, during, and after school hours. This includes supervising staff, ensuring a safe and enriching environment for students, and maintaining strong communication with families and school administrators.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree (required)
- Minimum 4 year's experience working with children in a school or camp setting(Lower School preferred)
- Experience supervising staff
Key ResponsibilitiesSupervision & Staff Management- Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and release staff as needed
- Coordinate with college career centers and attend job fairs for staff recruitment
- Schedule and oversee all non-academic supervision (before school, recess, lunch, after school, loading zone)
- Coordinate supervision for special events, faculty meetings, or absences
- Conduct daily and annual staff meetings and trainings
- Serve as liaison between BEST staff and administration
- Collaborate regularly with the LS Dean and other division leaders
Program Development- Develop and maintain the BEST program schedule, activities, and rotations
- Maintain and update registration databases for BEST, athletics, and performing arts
- Oversee all after-school activities, including managing outside vendors
- Research and recommend new enrichment opportunities
- Approve activity proposals and evaluate ongoing programs
Student & Parent Communication- Serve as the main point of contact for parent questions or concerns about the BEST program
- Address individual student behavior issues; coordinate with the Division Head or Dean as needed
- Attend meetings regarding student concerns and provide behavioral support as appropriate
Budgeting & Finance- Manage and maintain the BEST program budget, including projections and expense tracking
- Process payments for instructors and vendors; handle reimbursements and staff payroll
- Communicate with Finance regarding program charges and payroll
Inventory Management- Maintain and report inventory of BEST-related materials and supplies
General Duties- Ensure student safety at all times
- Plan supervision logistics for special events and adjusted schedules
- Represent BEST at school events (Back to School Night, Open Houses, etc.)
- Send regular communication to families regarding programming or scheduling updates
- Provide leadership and organization for childcare on scheduled non-instructional days
Skills and Competencies- CPR and First Aid certified (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and internal platforms (CampBrain, Infinite Campus, Paycom, etc.)
- Ability to observe and manage student behavior effectively
- High degree of organization and ability to multitask
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Physical ability to lift up to 10 lbs and supervise outdoor activities in various weather conditions
Working Conditions- This position requires standing and supervising students outdoors across various weather conditions.
- Must be able to manage a fast-paced environment and respond to high volumes of interactions with students, staff, and families.
