Experienced Barista — Hiring Immediately
The Dot Café at Check N’ Play | Brea Mall, CA
Pay: starting at $18.00 per hour + pooled tips
Benefit: Employee discount
Work location: In person
We’re hiring an experienced barista who can pull great espresso, prepare matcha, and make guests feel welcome. We want someone friendly, outgoing, dependable, and exacting about drink quality who notices the details and gets the work done.
We are conducting in-person interviews and are prepared to make an offer on the spot to the right candidate. Qualified candidates may be able to start within 1–2 days.
You must already have hands-on experience with a traditional espresso machine. Experience limited to super-automatic machines does not meet this requirement. We can train you on our menu, recipes, and specific equipment workflow; you should arrive with established espresso and matcha skills.
Our equipment
You’ll work with a La Marzocco Linea two-group espresso machine, commercial grinders including a Mahlkönig E80, an automatic puck tamper, and a TurboChef oven. Experience with comparable traditional espresso equipment is welcome. Training is available on our tamper, oven, and food preparation procedures.
What you bring
Practical café experience dialing in espresso, adjusting grind settings, preparing portafilters, pulling consistent shots, and steaming milk.
Ability to prepare smooth, properly mixed matcha and follow recipes accurately.
Knowledge of daily espresso-machine cleaning, steam-wand care, and backflushing.
A friendly, outgoing approach to guests and comfort appearing in in-store photos and short videos for the café’s social media.
High standards for taste, presentation, cleanliness, and accuracy, with the ability to work efficiently and independently.
Reliability, weekend availability, and readiness to start quickly.
Latte art is a plus, not a requirement.
What you will do
Prepare espresso drinks, matcha, teas, and signature beverages consistently to our recipes.
Welcome guests, recommend drinks, take orders, and handle POS transactions.
Prepare and heat food, restock supplies, and keep the café clean and organized.
Complete opening, closing, and equipment-cleaning duties.
Support café content creation during scheduled work.
The in-person interview
Come ready to demonstrate your skills. We’ll provide the ingredients, explain the recipe, and ask you to:
Prepare an espresso drink from our menu and demonstrate that you can pull proper shots.
Prepare matcha using our recipe.
Demonstrate proper espresso-machine cleaning and leave your station clean and organized.
We want to see your technique, attention to instructions, cleanliness, and finished drinks.
Availability
Weekend availability is required:
Saturdays: Shifts between 9:30 AM and 9:30 PM.
Sundays: Shifts between 10:30 AM and 7:30 PM.
Typical shift length: 4–8 hours.
How to apply
Apply with your résumé, the espresso machines you have used, your weekend availability, and your earliest start date. Please indicate whether you can attend an in-person interview and begin within the next 1–2 days.
