Birdies Bodega is a small organic grocery store in Newport Beach, California, featuring local produce and seed oil free, clean ingredient products. We’re building a meat department we’re proud of and looking for a skilled, hands-on teammate to help run it.
Position Summary: The Assistant Butcher supports department leadership and helps operate the Meat Department efficiently, safely, and profitably.
Schedule and Pay:
Full-time, Tuesday through Saturday
Pay based on experience
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with supervision of department personnel
Support merchandising, production, inventory control, and receiving
Train employees and provide shift leadership
Monitor quality, pricing, and rotation
Open and close the department as assigned
Equipment and Working Conditions:
May operate department equipment for which trained and authorized, including knives, bandsaws, grinders, slicers, tenderizers, scales, and wrapping equipment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods
Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and kneeling
Work in refrigerated coolers and freezers
Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds, and heavier loads with assistance or approved equipment
