Ascent Forestry is hiring an experienced excavator masticator operator for an active fuels reduction project in Big Bear Lake (San Bernardino National Forest).
Ascent Forestry is a California mechanical forestry and fuels reduction contractor performing federal and state contract work across the state. We operate a modern, well maintained equipment fleet, and our Big Bear project involves unit based production held to USFS inspection standards. We are looking for an operator who takes pride in precise, high quality work.
Responsibilities:
- Operate an excavator with a mastication head, treating brush and small diameter fuels to specification across project units
- Work steep, rocky, and sensitive ground while protecting leave trees, property boundaries, and archaeological and wildlife avoidance areas
- Work alongside our felling crew and coordinate with USFS inspectors on treatment standards
- Perform daily service including greasing, cutting teeth, filters, and walk around inspections to prevent downtime
- Track daily production by unit and communicate progress with the crew lead
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating masticating equipment; excavator mounted head experience preferred
- Ability to read a prescription and hold treatment standards independently
- Strong mechanical aptitude and commitment to equipment care
- Comfortable working at elevation in variable mountain weather
- Valid driver's license; Class A license a plus for equipment transport
Compensation: DOE, full time, immediate start, with consistent hours through the season and additional contracted work across the state to follow.
