We are currently seeking two dynamic, creative, and warm-hearted Preschool Assistant Teachers to join our dedicated community of educators. ABOUT THE ROLE
Our Assistant Teachers partner directly with Lead Teachers to build engaging, play-based classroom environments that support the whole child. This position offers room for professional growth within a supportive Christian preschool community, along with the opportunity to lead up to two afternoon Specialty Classes per week.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Classroom Support: Partner directly with the Lead Teacher to implement a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum and engaging learning activities.
- Child Nurturing & Safety: Provide a safe, loving, and supportive environment that inspires exploration and promotes all areas of child development.
- Classroom Management: Assist in maintaining an organized, clean, welcoming, and enganging classroom and outdoor environment.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the teaching team to discover and encourage the unique gifts and talents of each child.
- Family & Community Connection: Maintain warm, positive, and professional interactions with parents and preschool families.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Passionate About Early Childhood: Knowledgeable in developmentally appropriate practices and genuinely love working alongside young children and their families.
- Creative & Collaborative: Energetic, adaptable, and eager to bring your unique gifts and talents to a professional teaching environment.
- Early Childhood Educated: Completed a minimum of 12 ECE units, or are actively working toward completion. Exceptions may be considered.
- Welcoming & Professional: Someone who communicates clearly, warmly, and respectfully with children, colleagues, and parents.
- A Committed Christian: Driven by an active faith and eager to joyfully support the ministry and mission of our preschool.
SCHEDULE & HOURS
- Academic Year: August 2026 through June 2027
- Weekly Hours: Monday–Friday | Average of 30 hours per week.
- Daily Schedule: Start time is 8:15 a.m. End times may vary based on your availability and agreed afternoon schedule, with possible end times between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m.
Additional Opportunities: Opportunities may also be available to support Early Morning Care (7:00 a.m. start) and/or lead up to two one-hour Specialty Classes per week.
HOLIDAY BREAKS & SUMMER OPTION
- Paid Holiday Breaks: Our preschool breaks closely follow the San Diego Unified School District calendar. Employees receive paid holiday time during scheduled preschool closures.
- The 27 scheduled preschool closure days during the school year include:
- Thanksgiving Break: 1 week | 20 paid hours
- Christmas Break: 2 weeks | 40 paid hours
- Spring Break: 1 week | 20 paid hours
- Additional one-day holidays: Paid 4 hours per day
- Summer Option: Summer Camp opportunities may be available for teachers interested in extending their work schedule into the summer.
COMPENSATION
- Assistant Teacher: $19.00–$23.00 per hour
- Placement within the range is based on education and relevant early childhood experience.
