Position Overview:
GSWA is seeking an experienced, organized, detail-oriented, and effective Director of Finance to oversee all financial matters and insurance policies. This position is ideal for a self-directed professional seeking flexible hours and interested in working at a friendly, mission-driven organization.
The Finance Director will work closely with the Executive Director and the Treasurer of the Board of Trustees to oversee all financial matters in a GAAP-compliant manner, and manage insurance matters. The Finance Director will also oversee organizational policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
General Management
- Works with the Executive Director and Board in establishing long- and short-term financial and budget goals for the stability and perpetuity of GSWA.
Financial
- Supervises financial operations, accounting, and budgeting. Ensures the accuracy of GSWA's financial data and software, and that its financial systems and technology are appropriate and adequate.
- Works with individual staff members on matters of budget and finance. Consults with staff on day-to-day budget decisions and planning, approves expenditures for travel and purchases, and oversees other financial matters.
- Prepares and oversees GSWA's annual budget for the approval of the Finance Committee.
- Extrapolates data and forecasts revenues and expenditures.
- Responsible for GSWA's adherence to audit standards, IRS nonprofit requirements, the Standards and Practices of the Land Trust Alliance, internal controls, and the principles of sound, responsible financial management, including donor intent.
- Reviews, reports on, and oversees the activities of GSWA's investment accounts.
Finance Committee and Board of Directors
- Meets regularly with the Finance Committee to review financial reports and recommend changes to the budget.
- Prepares special financial reports as needed.
- Works with an audit firm during the annual audit. Prepares work papers as needed for the audit, and, with the Finance Committee, reviews financial statements. Responsible for the audit firm's timely performance of the audit, preparation of tax returns, and any other reports as necessary.
- When necessary, works with financial institutions to arrange financing of projects.
- Responsible for properly insuring GSWA staff and board members.
Fundraising and Development
- Responsible for proper handling of donations.
- Works closely with the Executive Director, Development Director, and other staff members to ensure full execution of fundraising goals for all projects.
- Works with the Executive Director and Development Director to set goals and ensure adequate financial resources.
- Tracks grants' budgets and financial/general ledger reporting for grants; ensures grant compliance.
Personnel
- Oversees payroll administration and reporting.
Additional Responsibilities
- Review of vendor contracts and related invoices
- Annual review of insurance coverage
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of financial experience.
- Nonprofit finance experience required.
- Bachelor's degree or higher. CPA or MBA preferred.
