Faith Based Nonprofit 501C3 Legal Clinic is seeking an experienced Paralegal / Case Manager to join our busy Costa Mesa legal team.
Our practice handles real estate and mortgage-related civil litigation, foreclosure and eviction defense, probate matters and related consumer cases. We are looking for a dependable, highly organized legal professional who can independently manage assignments while working closely under the supervision of multiple attorneys.
This is not an entry-level position. The successful candidate must be comfortable handling a substantial caseload, tracking court deadlines, communicating professionally with clients and opposing counsel, and maintaining accurate files in a fast-paced litigation environment.
Primary Responsibilities
• Manage assigned civil litigation matters from intake through resolution
• Help maintain the litigation calendar and track hearings, filing dates, discovery deadlines and trial-related dates
• Spot Check and re-draft routine pleadings, notices, declarations, discovery documents and correspondence for attorney review
• Prepare and organize discovery requests, responses and document productions
• Coordinate service, filing and delivery of court documents
• Review court dockets and maintain accurate electronic and physical case files
• Communicate professionally with clients, court personnel, opposing counsel, local counsel and vendors
• Obtain client documents and provide appropriate case-status follow-up under attorney direction
• Assist attorneys with unlawful detainer, civil litigation, bankruptcy-related and probate matters
• Identify approaching deadlines, missing information and potential procedural issues
• Coordinate assignments with outside counsel and support staff in other jurisdictions
• Help delegate and monitor appropriate administrative and case-support tasks
• Maintain detailed case notes, task lists and attorney reporting
Required Qualifications
• At least 3 years of recent civil-litigation law-office experience
• Working knowledge of California civil procedure and discovery
• Demonstrated ability to calendar and independently track litigation deadlines
• Strong legal writing proofreading and document-organization skills
• Ability to manage a high-volume caseload without sacrificing accuracy
• Professional communication skills when interacting with clients, courts and counsel
• Strong judgment, dependability and attention to detail
• Ability to remain calm, courteous and solution-oriented under pressure
• Ability to work independently and accept direction from multiple supervising attorneys
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, PDF documents, email and electronic case-management systems
