Mountain Lake Chess is the longest running chess teaching company in San Diego County, in operation for over 30 years. We provide chess instruction to elementary school children all over San Diego County. We are currently seeking teachers for the fall 2026 term at our afterschool programs--primarily in the Solana Beach School District area, but also several schools between North Park and La Jolla.
Requirements:
1) Must have reliable transportation to the school sites.
2) You must have some prior experience supervising groups of children at elementary school ages.
3) Know the basic rules of chess. You do not have to be an expert. We will train you on the "Evans Method" of chess instruction.
This is a part-time job with flexible weekday schedules (usually mid-afternoons); we will try to schedule you at a school/class site that is closest to where you work or live. Chess classes are 60 minutes each.
Starting pay rate is $40-50 per class, depending on experience. Schedule will most likely be one class per day, 2-3 days per week, depending on finalized schedule. Starts in August.
