About
The New York State Executive Chamber is seeking a high-energy Video Producer/Director to join our Digital-Creative Team. This team is the primary architect of the administration's digital voice, responsible for executing a high volume of written and visual content across all major channels, including social media, YouTube, email, events, and web platforms. Reporting to the Director of Creative Strategy & Operations, the Video Producer/Director will serve as a critical partner in bringing the policies and messaging of the Office of Governor Kathy Hochul to life through video and other creative activations.
In this role, you will be on the front lines of communicating the Governor’s agenda to millions of New Yorkers. You will balance fast-paced writing and video production with on-the-ground field production, directly capturing the Governor’s work as it happens. A successful candidate will be a collaborative storyteller, working across Executive Chamber departments and State agencies to translate complex policy initiatives into engaging, accessible, and creative content that informs residents and highlights the real-world impact of the administration's work.
Note: This role will sometimes involve traveling for shoots throughout the state as well as being on call after typical work hours including weekends.
Concepting, Producing, and Directing Videos (~50%)
- Collaborate with the team to brainstorm and develop video and creative concepts.
- Manage the production process for and guide post-production of various video projects.
- Lead creative preparation for and on-set direction of crew and talent for creative concepts - including writing scripts, drafting briefing materials, storyboarding, etc. - both in-studio and out in the field as necessary.
- Provide notes and direction to video editors - both for fully-owned video productions and edits from existing footage.
- When needed, shoot docu-style social video using smartphone rig (and/or other camera depending on experience / comfort level).
- Stay plugged in to social/digital/video trends, government policy, news items, and culture that could contribute to developing new creative opportunities.
Creative Production Management (~30%)
- Work with team leads to manage creative operations processes - keeping production of videos, creative materials, graphic assets, etc. organized, staffed, and on schedule.
- Contribute to tracking and assigning video/digital staffing at shoots and events around the state.
- Additional duties as needed
Creative Direction & Copy Writing (~20%)
- Collaborate with Comms and Design to direct the creation of signage and other creative materials for various events and activations, including: visual direction, copy, adherence to brand guidelines, approvals, etc.

The ideal candidate will:

- Have 5-7+ years in video production experience, preferably within a fast-paced media, political, government, advocacy, or similar-paced environment.
- Have exceptional writing/communications skills – especially scripts for digital video.
- Have experience and/or comfortability directing and staffing a high-profile principal (e.g., an elected official or executive or other talent) during content shoots and events.
- Have a great sense of organization, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain organization while managing multiple rapid-response priorities.
- Be able to share a portfolio of recent creative content productions.
- Have basic familiarity with content creation tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, and/or other comparable graphic design and video editing software.
- Be willing to travel statewide and staff on-call shifts during nights and weekends.
