Job Purpose: The assistant music editor is a sound editor and musician involved in aiding the music editor in the coordination and organization of music on film and TV projects, accurately and cleanly helping to guide the music from conception to delivery of files and paperwork.
What You’ll Do
- Attend and assist in note-taking during spotting sessions with the Score Producer, Score Supervisors, Music Editor and Composer(s), aiding in importing rigorous spotting notes on each cue into internal cue tracking sheets.
- Attend internal project meetings with Score Producer, Score Supervisors, Music Editor and Composer(s) to discuss the number, placement, and content of musical cues and/or sync in the project.
- Aiding the Music Editor in the creation and finalizing of cue sheet info at the end of a project.
- Assist in the creation of sonic palette playlists and provide library music options for client consideration when requested.
- Prepare assets delivered to and from both remote and in-person music recording sessions when necessary.
- Acquire a deep understanding of composer workflows and aid composer assistants through the basic conventions and workflows employed across the company on score-to-picture projects.
- Coordinate with Music Editor and picture editors to keep internal notes up to date and edit cues accordingly.
- Keep the Score Supervisor, Music Editor and Composer teams assigned to each project updated on picture edits and changes, reflecting them in internal tracking sheets.
- Edit, conform, record musical scores and arrangements that complement television shows, commercials, movies, theater productions and video games.
- Aid in development of tone appropriate palette of cues for shows and series including building out from reference tracks to create original cues.
- Expanding knowledge of musical equipment, software packages, and technical recordings, keeping up to date with the latest music technology software.
- Receiving feedback and completing revisions on music edits both from Senior Music Editor as well as clients when applicable.
Who You Are
- Some prior experience as a Music Editor or Composer Assistant with a background in music composition, music theory, and studio experience.
- Professionally skilled in composition, orchestration, score-reading, music theory and working with audio stems.
- Possesses a keen and well-developed musical ear and production skill sets to push boundaries of musical scores.
- Must be comfortable editing any genre of music.
- Some experience working with and directing soloists and orchestras.
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to work proactively, “ahead of schedule”, independently and reliably on multiple large-scale projects within tight deadlines in a fast-paced production environment.
- Passionate about music and providing a quality product to clients.
- Professional fluency in ProTools Ultimate, Cubase, Logic, and Sibelius.
- Proficiency in Ableton Live not required, but preferred.
- Ability to work with stereo, 5.1, and 7.1 audio stems - time shift, pitching, in addition to conforming and editing.
- Ability to work quickly and deliver on time.
- Extensive music knowledge including familiarity with many different genres of music, musical score, instrumentation and musical terms and a willingness to listen to and learn unfamiliar work.
- Familiarity with the production of recording and electronic media projects.
- A collaborative and flexible style, with a strong team mentality.
- Must be willing to work around production schedules and deadlines including availability to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- You have sound cross-functional collaboration skills, can build relationships internally and instill a sense of solidarity across teams.
- A thoughtful, organized and results-oriented professional.
- Able to adapt quickly to a changing environment with minimal disruption.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Variations in work volume may require extended working hours for evening and late-night events.

Disclaimer
The anticipated annual base salary for this position is:
$48,700.00-$69,500.00
This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
