MJM Engines is seeking an experienced Technical Operations Manager to lead our engine rebuilding and machine shop operation in Escondido, California.

As Technical Operations Manager, you will oversee technicians and machinists, improve workflow and quality, support customers, develop team members, and help drive the future growth of the business.

MJM Engines is one of Southern California’s established engine rebuilding and machining facilities, specializing in domestic gasoline and diesel engine replacement, rebuilding, machining, and diagnostics.

Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
Lead and develop technicians and machinists
Establish accountability and performance expectations
Coach and mentor team members
Build a culture of teamwork, ownership, and continuous improvement
Conduct performance and development conversations
Operations Management
Manage daily workflow and production
Improve efficiency and turnaround times
Remove bottlenecks and improve shop performance
Implement and improve operational processes
Monitor production and quality standards
Technical Leadership
Support advanced diagnostic and repair decisions
Lead root-cause failure analysis
Assist technicians with complex technical challenges
Improve diagnostic capabilities throughout the team
Maintain high standards of workmanship and quality
Customer Interaction
Build estimates and repair recommendations
Communicate findings and repair plans
Answer phones and assist customers as needed
Handle escalated customer concerns professionally
Qualifications
Required
Previous leadership experience in an automotive repair environment
Strong engine diagnostic and repair background
Experience managing technicians and workflow
Strong communication and customer service skills
Ability to hold team members accountable while developing them
Experience with domestic gasoline engines
Experience with diesel diagnostics and repair
Preferred
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred
ASE Master Certified Technician
Certifications in engine repair or machining
Engine rebuilding experience
Machine shop experience
Electrical and drivability diagnostic expertise
Experience improving shop performance and culture
