We are seeking a Director of Field Operations (General Superintendent) who is passionate about leadership, operational excellence, safety, and developing high-performing field teams. This individual will serve as the senior field operations leader for the company and play a critical role in scaling production capabilities while maintaining the highest standards of quality and service.
Position Summary
The Director of Field Operations (General Superintendent) serves as the senior field operations leader for the company and is responsible for overseeing all field production activities, including project execution, safety, manpower planning, quality control, production performance, and field team development.
This role provides leadership for superintendents, foremen, crews, and subcontractors while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with company standards. The Director of Field Operations works closely with ownership, project management, clients, consultants, vendors, and trade partners to drive operational excellence and support the company's continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Operations
• Provide leadership and oversight for all field operations across multiple active projects.
• Direct and support superintendents, foremen, crews, and subcontractors.
• Coordinate manpower, equipment, material deliveries, and production schedules.
• Monitor project progress and proactively address schedule impacts, resource constraints, and field challenges.
• Ensure all projects are executed in accordance with contract documents, manufacturer requirements, and company standards.
• Conduct regular jobsite visits to evaluate safety, quality, productivity, and overall project performance.
Safety Leadership
• Champion a culture where safety is the highest priority.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, company safety policies, and site-specific requirements.
• Lead safety initiatives, training programs, toolbox talks, and field audits.
• Investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure crews are properly trained, equipped, and supported to perform work safely.
Quality & Client Experience
• Establish and maintain quality standards across all projects.
• Ensure workmanship consistently meets company and manufacturer requirements.
• Identify and resolve deficiencies before they impact project schedules or customer satisfaction.
• Maintain positive relationships with community managers, HOA boards, consultants, owners, and project stakeholders.
• Support a customer-first culture through professionalism, communication, and responsiveness.
Production & Financial Performance
• Partner with Project Managers to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget.
• Monitor labor productivity, equipment utilization, and material management.
• Assist with forecasting manpower requirements and project staffing needs.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce rework, and increase profitability.
• Participate in project planning, preconstruction meetings, and operational strategy discussions.
Team Development
• Recruit, mentor, and develop field leaders.
• Create accountability while fostering a culture of respect, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
• Conduct performance evaluations and support career development opportunities.
• Help build the next generation of field leadership within the organization.
Qualifications
• 10+ years of construction leadership experience, with significant roofing experience preferred.
• Proven success managing multiple crews and projects simultaneously.
• Strong understanding of roofing systems, waterproofing, safety regulations, and construction practices.
• Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with scheduling, production planning, and manpower forecasting.
• Ability to read plans, specifications, and construction documents.
• Proficiency with construction management software and reporting systems.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel between project sites.
Preferred Qualifications
• HOA industry experience strongly preferred.
• Experience working directly with community managers, HOA boards, consultants, and occupied communities.
• HOA, multifamily, and occupied-community project experience.
• OSHA 30 Certification.
• Bilingual English/Spanish.
• Experience with Buildertrend or similar construction management software.
• Experience managing subcontractor-driven production environments.

Compensation & Benefits
• Salary range: $110,000 – $155,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated leadership ability.
