Job Overview
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Paralegal specializing in Family Law to join our dynamic legal team. In this vital role, you will work as part of a team with an attorney, providing support by managing case files, conducting legal research, drafting documents, and ensuring smooth case progression. Your expertise will help facilitate effective family law proceedings, including divorce, child custody, and support cases. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your legal skills in a collaborative, fast-paced environment dedicated to client advocacy and justice. This position is paid hourly at $25 to $28 an hour ($52,000 to $58,000 yearly), and eligible for monthly bonuses.
Responsibilities
Assist attorney with case preparation, including drafting pleadings, motions, and legal correspondence related to family law matters
Conduct comprehensive legal research utilizing Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other legal research tools to support case strategies
Manage and organize case files using document management systems
Review and analyze legal documents, contracts, and evidence to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable laws
Maintain detailed records of case activities, court deadlines, and document submissions in legal case management software
Maintain an accurate calendar for the attorney on your legal team
Support administrative functions such as scheduling hearings, preparing reports, proofreading legal documents, and transcribing recordings as needed
Experience
Prior experience as a paralegal or legal assistant within a family law practice or related legal field is highly preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of family law procedures, including divorce, child custody, visitation rights, and support enforcement
Familiarity with legal research platforms such as Westlaw and LexisNexis to efficiently locate relevant statutes and case law
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proficiency in legal drafting, proofreading, and transcription tasks
Knowledge of court forms, Lawyaw, Outlook, XSpouse, e-filing, and legal research
Experience with income and expense declarations, preparing trial briefs, basic discovery, and property declarations.
Must be reliable, possess integrity, and be able to meet deadlines
Available to work overtime when necessary
Experience with MyCase is a plus.
English/Spanish bilingual a plus.
