Job Duties
Under direction, evaluates, installs, configures, test, troubleshoots and/or maintains very complex third party software on computer systems in order to maximize computer response time and to enhance overall system performance (e.g. AIX, Solaris, Linux, third party installs on UNIX/NT, UNIX configuration management & UNIX tuning, IBM P/Series, Sun Spark remote storage & switch); participates in pre-installation planning (e.g. UNIX concepts and practices ); reads technical computer systems/software manuals & guides (e.g. training and development ); performs regression testing (e.g. concepts and practices); installs new software packages/upgrades; monitors the hardware & software (e.g. concepts and practices); restores system following massive software or hardware failures (file systems ,user management ) ; maintains system security & assists in system capacity planning, system recovery, tuning & availability management (tuning ,concepts and practices).
Provides technical assistance to management & system users (concepts and practices, system network protocols, logical and physical topologies computer operating systems change control networking interfaces); identifies, analyzes & resolves software problems associated with teleprocessing application (e.g., operating systems); contacts vendor representative to resolve system problems (e.g., third party installs computer hardware) .Trains programmers & computer operations personnel in use of software & hardware; analyzes system &/or region dumps/error messages;
Writes exit routines &/or programs to interact with system software; recommends programming & operating standards to aid in optimum software/hardware performance; prepares system performance & usage reports. Confers & coordinates with network administration in design & maintenance of network operating systems; analyzes, designs and implements data communication services as elements of overall operating systems design.
Performs other duties as assigned (e.g., prepares written status reports; attends &/or facilitates staff/team meetings; seminars & training classes).
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of undergraduate core program in computer science which included study in Assembler, REXX, Clist & COBOL languages
AND 2 yrs. trg. or 2 yrs. exp. in software installation & maintenance for mainframe operating systems;
OR 12 mos. exp. as Systems Programmer 2, 64192.
OR equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
Supplemental Information
Position Specific Minimum Qualification: 3 courses or 9 months in UNIX.
NOTE: Subject to on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Required to carry a pager/cellular phone, as assigned. Required to work overtime as assigned.
In/out of state travel required as assigned.
TRAVEL REQUIRED, AS NEEDED. MUST PROVIDE OWN TRANSPORTATION. OR, IN ORDER TO OPERATE A STATE VEHICLE, YOU MUST HAVE A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE FROM STATE OF RESIDENCE.
