Video Systems & Streaming Technician
Del Mar, CA • Seasonal (July – Sept, Oct – Nov) • On-Site
About the Role
Del Mar Thoroughbred Club hosts world-class thoroughbred racing seasons each year — including multiple Breeders’ Cup World Championships — at the iconic Del Mar Racetrack. The 370-acre facility is also home to the San Diego County Fair (one of the largest in the U.S.), the Del Mar National Horse Show, equestrian events, and major consumer expos, making it one of Southern California’s most dynamic event destinations.
We’re looking for a tech-savvy, detail-oriented Video Systems & Streaming Technician to support our live event production and media technology operations. This is a junior-level role ideal for someone with a strong foundation in video distribution, streaming platforms, and live media — and a passion for growing their skills in a high-energy, high-visibility environment. You’ll work alongside our lead video engineer, helping to operate and maintain the systems that power Del Mar’s massive on-site screen network and digital media presence.
Key Responsibilities
Streaming & Digital Media
• Assist with configuration and management of live streaming via RTMP/Teradek encoders, OBS, and platforms including YouTube Live, Facebook Live, Instagram, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom.
• Support integration of remote guests and pre-recorded content into live productions.
• Help operate broadcast software including ProPresenter, Resolume Arena, and Playback Pro under the direction of the lead engineer.
• Monitor live stream health and quality in real time, escalating issues promptly.
Video Infrastructure & Display Systems
• Support operation and maintenance of the site-wide cable TV signal distribution system, feeding 50+ HD channels to 1,000-plus screens and video boards across the 370-acre fairgrounds.
• Assist with HD-SDI signal routing and Blackmagic hardware (routers, multiviewers, encoders).
• Help operate Daktronics mobile and permanent LED video boards across the facility.
• Assist with IP-based remote monitoring and control of video systems.
• Maintain organized equipment lists, cable runs, and basic signal flow documentation.
Event Support & General
• Set up, cable, and strike video equipment for events of varying scale.
• Provide hands-on technical support during live events including racing days, concerts, fairs, and expos.
• Troubleshoot video, streaming, and display issues in real time under guidance of senior staff.
• Assist with sourcing equipment and tracking inventory for event-specific needs.
Required Qualifications
• 1–3 years of experience in live event video production, AV support, or broadcast operations.
• Familiarity with live streaming platforms and tools (OBS, YouTube Live, Zoom, Teams, RTMP protocols).
• Basic understanding of video signal flow and display systems (HD-SDI, HDMI, SDI routing).
• Comfortable operating in fast-paced, live event environments.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow technical direction.
• Availability for evenings, weekends, and seasonal peaks.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Blackmagic Design hardware (ATEM switchers, Hyperdeck, routers, multiviewers).
• Hands-on experience with LED video wall systems or large-format displays.
• Familiarity with broadcast software: ProPresenter, Resolume Arena, or Playback Pro.
• Experience with PTZ cameras or multi-camera live production workflows.
• Familiarity with NDI or IP-based video routing.
• Video editing skills (Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, or similar).
• Coursework or degree in Film, Broadcast Technology, Electronic Arts, or a related field.
• Experience in large-scale fairgrounds, sports venues, or concert production.
Compensation & Benefits
• Competitive daily rate commensurate with experience.
• A dynamic, one-of-a-kind work environment at one of California’s premier event destinations.
• Opportunities to learn and grow alongside experienced production professionals.
