Production & Digital Media Intern
Del Mar, CA • Seasonal (July – Sept, Oct – Nov) • On-Site
About the Role
Del Mar Thoroughbred Club hosts world-class thoroughbred racing seasons each year — including multiple Breeders’ Cup World Championships — at the iconic Del Mar Racetrack. The 370-acre facility is also home to the San Diego County Fair (one of the largest in the U.S.), the Del Mar National Horse Show, equestrian events, and major consumer expos, making it one of Southern California’s most dynamic event destinations.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and curious Production & Digital Media Intern to join our event production team for the season. This is a hands-on, learn-by-doing role designed for students or recent graduates exploring careers in live event production, broadcast, digital content, or audio/visual technology.
You’ll rotate through multiple areas of our production operation — from supporting live event AV setups and streaming workflows to helping capture and publish digital content across our platforms. No single day looks the same. You’ll get real-world experience in a fast-paced, professional environment with a team that’s genuinely invested in your development.
What You’ll Do
Live Event Support
• Assist production staff with equipment setup, cabling, and strike for events including racing days, concerts, fairs, and special shows.
• Support AV technicians on-site during live events — handling tasks like equipment transport, cable management, and gear staging.
• Help monitor event systems and communicate with crew via radio or headset.
• Observe and assist with camera operation, audio setup, and display/screen management.
Streaming & Digital Content
• Assist with live stream setup and monitoring across platforms including YouTube Live, Instagram, and Facebook Live.
• Help capture behind-the-scenes photo and video content at races, concerts, and fairground events.
• Support editing and delivery of short-form video content, highlight clips, and social media assets.
• Assist with running graphics and on-screen content using tools like ProPresenter or Resolume Arena.
Digital Media & Production Operations
• Help maintain organized equipment logs, media files, and production documentation.
• Assist with digital signage updates and on-site screen content management.
• Support the team in sourcing props, coordinating logistics, and preparing for events.
• Participate in production meetings and contribute ideas for improving workflows or content.
Learning & Development
• Shadow experienced engineers and technicians across audio, video, streaming, and broadcast disciplines.
• Get hands-on exposure to professional-grade equipment: digital consoles, broadcast switchers, signal routers, wireless systems,
LED boards, and more.
• Receive mentorship from production staff and gain insight into the event production lifecycle.
Who We’re Looking For
You don’t need to have it all figured out — that’s what internships are for. Here’s what will help you thrive in this role:
• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in Film, Broadcast, Communications, Music Technology, Audio Engineering, Media Arts, or a related field.
• A genuine interest in live events, digital media, audio/visual production, or streaming/broadcast technology.
• A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to jump in and lear.
• Comfortable in a fast-moving, outdoor environment during peak event periods.
• Basic familiarity with video, audio, or social media content tools is a plus, but not required.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; reliable and detail-oriented.
• Available for evenings, weekends, and peak seasonal dates throughout the internship.
What You’ll Gain
• Hands-on experience across a full spectrum of live event production disciplines: audio, video, streaming, broadcast, and digital content.
• Real résumé-building work at a high-profile Southern California venue hosting hundreds of events per season.
• Mentorship from experienced, working production professionals.
• Exposure to industry-standard equipment and software used in professional live production.
• A letter of recommendation and professional references upon successful completion.
Compensation - $22 an hour.
