Position Summary
The IT Specialist is responsible for providing technical support, maintaining information technology systems, and ensuring the efficient operation of hardware, software, networks, and communication systems for the Family Service Center of Galveston County. This position supports staff across multiple departments and locations to ensure secure, reliable, and effective technology services that align with the organization’s mission of serving individuals and families in the community.
The IT Specialist will assist with troubleshooting technical issues, maintaining cybersecurity standards, supporting employee onboarding and offboarding, and coordinating with third-party vendors as needed.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Technical Support
- Provide daytoday technical support to employees regarding hardware, software, printers, phones, and network connectivity.
- Troubleshoot and resolve desktop, laptop, mobile device, and system issues in a timely manner.
- Install, configure, and maintain computers, software applications, and peripheral equipment.
- Respond to help desk requests and document resolutions.
Systems & Network Administration
- Assist with maintaining organizational networks, internet connectivity, WiFi access, and shared drives.
- Support Microsoft 365, email systems, cloudbased platforms, and user account management.
- Monitor system performance and escalate issues when necessary.
- Assist with software updates, patches, and technology upgrades.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
- Support cybersecurity initiatives including password management, multifactor authentication, antivirus software, and data protection procedures.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with confidentiality and security standards related to client and organizational information.
- Help educate staff on safe technology practices and phishing awareness.
- Maintain backup and recovery procedures.
Employee Support & Training
- Set up technology equipment and system access for new employees.
- Deactivate accounts and recover equipment during employee separations.
- Provide basic training and guidance to staff on software systems and technology tools.
- Develop userfriendly technology instructions and documentation when needed.
Vendor & Equipment Coordination
- Coordinate with external IT vendors, internet providers, and software support teams.
- Maintain inventory of IT equipment, software licenses, and technology assets.
- Recommend equipment replacements and technology improvements.
- Assist with purchasing and deployment of technology resources.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support virtual meeting platforms and conference room technology.
- Participate in organizational projects related to technology improvements.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee and client information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in IT support, help desk, or systems administration.
- Experience supporting nonprofit organizations or healthcare/social service environments is preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365, Windows operating systems, networking fundamentals, and cloudbased applications.
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues effectively.
- Understanding of cybersecurity best practices and data protection standards.
- Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple requests simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and problemsolving skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move computer equipment up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and use computer equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to travel between agency locations as needed.
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office environment with occasional travel between agency sites. The IT Specialist may occasionally need to work outside normal business hours to address urgent technology issues or system maintenance.
