We are a fast-paced, team-driven organization with a strong leadership group and a focus on operational excellence. As we continue to scale, we are seeking a Controller who will take ownership of our financial operations and serve as a key strategic partner to our executive team.
Position Overview
The Controller will lead all accounting and payroll functions while providing financial visibility and strategic insight across the organization. This role is both hands-on and strategic, requiring strong leadership, construction accounting expertise, and the ability to translate financial data into actionable business decisions.
The Controller will manage a high-volume transactional environment—including 150+ service invoices per week—while ensuring accuracy in revenue recognition, job costing, and financial reporting.
This role offers a clear path to CFO for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Directly manage and develop the accounting and payroll team (AP, AR, Billing Specialist, Payroll)
- Build a culture of accountability, efficiency, and teamwork
- Collaborate closely with operations and purchasing
Financial Operations
- Oversee general ledger, AP/AR, billing, and payroll functions
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close
- Prepare and present internal financial statements
Revenue Recognition & Billing
- Oversee high-volume invoicing (150+ invoices/week) within the service division
- Ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with accounting standards
- Manage and review AIA billing processes
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness across all billing functions
Job Costing & WIP Reporting
- Lead Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting and analysis
- Ensure alignment between financial data and project performance
- Identify cost trends, margin risks, and opportunities for improvement
Cash Flow, Forecasting & Budgeting
- Actively manage and forecast company cash flow
- Develop and maintain short- and long-term financial forecasts
- Lead annual budgeting in collaboration with the executive team
- Provide strategic recommendations based on financial insights
Systems & Process Improvement
- Drive process improvements across accounting workflows
- Optimize use of systems: Sage, TimberScan, Miter HRIS, Service Channel
Executive Collaboration
- Report directly to the Owner, President, and VP of Construction
- Participate in monthly executive leadership meetings
- Provide financial reporting, forecasting, and strategic input to support decision-making
Qualifications
Required:
- Strong experience in accounting leadership roles
- Demonstrated expertise in:
- Revenue recognition
- AIA billing
- WIP reporting
- Job costing
- Ability to operate in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
- Strong on-site presence and reliability
Preferred:
- Construction industry experience
- Payroll experience
- Experience with Sage, TimberScan, Miter HRIS, and Service Channel
