Packaging Engineer is a pivotal contributor within the
Reckitt R&D organization, blending technical leadership with hands-on execution to bring packaging solutions to life-from early concept through full commercialization. Reporting to the Senior Packaging Engineer, this role leads critical work across
packaging component lifecycle management, innovation, and cost optimization, while upholding rigorous regulatory, quality, sustainability, and customer standards.
Partnering closely with
R&D, Operations, Quality, Engineering, Procurement, and external suppliers, the Packaging Engineer is at the center of solving real-world technical challenges. The role drives trials, develops robust specifications, and delivers packaging solutions that perform at scale. OTC and consumer health packaging platforms-turning complexity into competitive advantage.
Your responsibilities- Design, modify, and commercialize packaging solutions from bench scale through pilot and full-scale production, applying OTC consumer goods manufacturing and packaging principles to meet customer, consumer, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and govern packaging specifications, item data, and technical documentation within Reckitt enterprise systems to support lifecycle management, cost efficiency, and launch readiness.
- Plan and execute packaging validations and testing, including PQ activities, transit, compression, vibration, seal integrity, material compatibility, lab testing, production trials, and supplier evaluations; analyze data and document results compliantly.
- Support change management, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis by assessing packaging changes, resolving performance issues, and applying sound engineering judgment to mitigate quality and compliance risk.
- Drive project execution and cross-functional collaboration, independently owning assigned workstreams, managing timelines, participating in meetings, and clearly communicating progress, risks, and outcomes.
- Advance innovation, cost optimization, and sustainability by evaluating packaging options, developing cost models and scenarios, researching equipment and technology improvements, and integrating recyclability and environmental goals into packaging decisions.
This role is not currently sponsoring visas or considering international movement at this time.The experience we're looking for- Bachelor's degree in Packaging, Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of progressive experience delivering packaging engineering projects within consumer products, OTC, nutraceutical (vitamins/supplements), or food industries.
- Demonstrated experience working under U.S. Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), including packaging-related compliance and documentation requirements.
- Hands-on experience with packaging materials, processes, and equipment systems, including testing, qualification, validation, and laboratory-based packaging activities.
- Proven experience managing multiple concurrent projects, documenting and presenting technical findings, working within ERP and technical systems (e.g., SAP), and collaborating across manufacturing, quality, and supply chain organizations; ability to travel approximately 10%.

US pay transparencyThe base salary range for this role will vary based on experience in job and industry, training and education, skills relevant to the position, and other factors permitted by law.
