We are seeking a Director or Senior Director of IT to lead and manage all technology operations across our logistics business. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the company’s IT infrastructure, optimizing existing systems, managing vendors, and ensuring technology is fully leveraged to support operational efficiency and growth.
This role will work closely with leadership across multiple business units and report directly to the President of the company.
The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, capable of managing IT operations while also stepping in when necessary to support systems, hardware, and implementation initiatives.
Company Operations
The IT Director will support technology across four core business divisions:
Intermodal
- Focused on railroads and ports
- Approximately 8 employees
- Primarily onsite operations
Asset-Based Transportation
- Asset-backed trucking operations
- Currently experiencing strong demand and utilization
Warehousing
- The company’s smallest division
- Focused on storage and logistics operations
Freight Brokerage
- Largest division
- Approximately 20 employees
- Hybrid/remote team structure
Key Responsibilities
IT Leadership & Strategy
- Oversee all IT operations and infrastructure across the organization
- Develop and execute IT strategies that support business operations and growth
- Ensure systems are running efficiently and are being used to their full capabilities
Systems & Technology Optimization
- Gain a deep understanding of existing platforms and ensure the company is maximizing their functionality
- Evaluate current systems and identify opportunities for improvement, consolidation, or automation
- Support implementation of tools that enhance operational visibility and reporting
Team Leadership
- Manage and mentor internal IT personnel, including:
- Hardware Specialist
- Business Intelligence Specialist responsible for reporting and analytics
Vendor Management
- Manage relationships with technology vendors and external providers
- Evaluate which services should remain outsourced vs. brought in-house
- Ensure vendors are delivering value relative to cost
IT Operations Support
- Oversee system updates, hardware management, and software lifecycle management
- Assist with laptop setups, system reboots, and infrastructure improvements as needed
- Maintain relationships with external IT service providers (including React Computer)
Security & Infrastructure
- Ensure proper IT security protocols, particularly when working with offshore teams
- Maintain system integrity, uptime, and data security
Data & Analytics
- Support the development and use of Business Intelligence tools
- Help operational teams better leverage reporting and analytics
Emerging Technology & AI
- Explore and implement tools such as AI agents and Microsoft Copilot
Data Analytics
- Improve operational workflows including check calls and POD processing using AI
Required Experience & Skills
Transportation Technology Expertise
Candidates must have strong experience with transportation and logistics technology platforms, including:
- McLeod Software (required)
- PortPro TMS
- LoadMaster TMS
- PowerBroker
- EDI platforms and load status integrations
- Alpine Maintenance System
- Motive (ELD and camera systems)
Additional Preferred Experience
- Experience working with offshore technology teams
- Understanding of international security protocols and data governance
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be:
- Technically strong and operationally minded
- Comfortable in a hands-on IT leadership role
- Experienced in logistics and transportation technology
- Able to balance strategic planning with day-to-day operational support
- Capable of working directly with executive leadership
Candidates should be based in the Chicago area and willing to work onsite initially while learning the business. Hybrid or remote flexibility may be available over time.
