As an IT Systems Engineer, you will be part of the IT team to ensure that our technical systems run smoothly and efficiently, supporting mission-critical business platforms including inventory, logistics, and ERP systems hosted on-premise. This role is infrastructure-focused, with responsibility for maintaining a secure, reliable, and scalable hybrid IT environment.
While this position will assist with service desk escalations as needed, its primary focus is systems administration, virtualization, networking, identity management, and data protection.
You will work alongside current IT leadership during a knowledge-transfer period and assume increasing ownership of our infrastructure environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and administer on-premise Windows Server infrastructure supporting core ERP/logistics/accounting systems
- Administer and maintain Proxmox (Linux-based) virtualized environment, including VM provisioning, performance monitoring, and lifecycle management
- Participate in the design, implementation, and ongoing ownership of backup and disaster recovery processes using Veeam, including restore validation and recovery documentation.
- Configure and maintain secure VPN access for remote users
- Maintain hybrid identity environment (Active Directory + Microsoft Entra), including permissions, group policy, and secure access controls
- Build, test and deploy physical network systems including switches, access points and firewalls
- Assist with routing and switching infrastructure across multiple sites
- Provide escalated technical support for complex hardware, software, and network issues as needed
- Maintain system documentation, network diagrams, backup procedures, and recovery processes
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support infrastructure and occasional after-hours service desk needs (typically limited in volume)
- Coordinate with third-party service providers and vendors when necessary
- Additional infrastructure responsibilities may include: administration of phone systems, physical security systems, video surveillance platforms, firewall policies, and facility-level access controls.
Qualifications
- 5+ years experience in Information Systems or Infrastructure Administration
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong experience in Windows Server administration and Active Directory environments
- Strong working knowledge of Linux systems and administration (required), particularly in virtualization and infrastructure environments.
- Experience administering virtualization platforms (Proxmox, VMware, Hyper-V, or similar)
- Experience implementing and maintaining backup and disaster recovery systems (Veeam preferred)
- In-depth understanding of networking protocols including TCP/IP, DNS & DHCP
- Experience with Fortinet, Aruba, Cisco Meraki, QEMU/KVM Linux virtualization (preferred)
- Experience supporting multi-site routing and switching environments
- Ability to travel, up to 4 hours from KC, a few times per month
- Proficiency with Windows Operating Systems, Microsoft 365, and hybrid identity environments
Relevant Certifications Preferred (not Required)
- VMware VCP or equivalent virtualization certification
- Fortinet NSE or comparable firewall/security certification
- CCNA (networking)

The Pay Range For This Role Is
85,000 - 95,000 USD per year(Kansas City, MO)
